I want help deciding which one I should get printed- (about the same price)... they will be going into bags that will be given away at various baby events and pediatricians offices. Both will be full color. The postcard option will be 4" x 6", with very stiff paper. The flyer option will be 8.5" x 5.5" and a little thicker than standard copy paper, but not much.
Any thoughts? Has anyone tried both and gotten a better response from one or the other?

Well, I have sent postcards, and greeting cards as marketing tools, but can't say that I have experience with using them as part of a sample bag. My thoughts would be that the postcards might be better because they are more compact, could fit easier on someone's fridge, sturdier, etc. BUT - it might depend on how much information you want to have printed on them. 
If you can get it all on a postcard I'd go with that.

My own personal preference is post cards.
However, with that said, as I was reading your post, something did pop into my head.
If you use post cards, I wonder what the chances are of people actually using them? I know there are a lot of "freebie" people out there that use every single free item them get ... right?
Well, who's to say they wouldn't actually use the post card? THEN not only did you catch the attention of the person who got the card but also you stand the chances of catching the attention of not only the person who took it but also the person who receives it in the mail AND anyone else who touches it in transit??
Hmm ... that is definitely something to think about there. Especially if they're going to cost the same price
Besides, I also think it's easier to toss away a flyer than it is to toss away a much stiffer material of a post card - but then that just could be the pack rat in me, lol! I have a file at home here that I keep things such as that ... just in case I may need it in the future OR I know someone else who might be able to use it.
OH! And that just gave me another idea ...
You could also include on the post card somewhere ...
Something just little would be good enough...

Hmm ... I don't like those words exactly, lol. I didn't put a whole lot of time into it but you get the idea. I think I do like the first one better though.
I just think it might entice them to share the free magazine with someone they know might want it. I mean it's a free magazine after all. And you're reminding them that they'd be being a good friend by simply buying a stamp and passing it on.
OR
Now that I think about it ... I'm not sure I particuarly care for the "Buy a stamp" cause you're remindind the really cheap people that it's gonna cost them, lol!
In that case, you could say something like
Go to UtahBabyGuide.com - Subscribe
Be a good friend!
Attach a stamp and pass it on!
OR

Hi all,
As for myself, I like post cards better.
They don't take up much room in the customers bags and less chance of getting crumbled up.
Plus post cards don't take up much room when posting them on the refrig.
I do that alot especially if I want to remember a sale.
just my two cents.

Oh! I love those ideas!
I like the idea of actually making it mailable, too! I could just put a picture of a really cute baby on the front of it, and in sort of small writing put "www.utahbabyguide.com" on one line and "The FREE magazine for new and expecting parents" on another line and not clutter it up with anything more than that, so that it doesn't look like an ad at first. That might make it more likely that people will use it as a post card, don't you think?
Maybe I can post a pic when I get it figured out.
