This week's article focuses on building a bigger, better list. If you don't even have a newsletter of any kind set up, now is the time to do it! Take the tips from today's article, and use them to get started. If you already have a list set up, use them to improve.
Also, we wanted to bring attention to a blog post over at 2WAHMs that just went up this morning. If you are looking for free or low cost ideas for advertising, you can find a whole list in this blog post:

How Do I Get Subscribers?
by Kara Kelso and Anita DeFrank
A newsletter is important to your success. No matter what company you rep for or how you do business, it's important to stay in contact with your potential customers. The following tips will help you increase the number of valuble subscribers to your list.
1. Don't use free mailing lists
Yahoo groups and the like may be great to start out with because they are free, but your list will grow a whole lot faster using a professional service. Visitors will take you more seriously as a business owner.
2. Ditch the freebies
Discounts yes, freebies no. When I moved my candle site list to another provider and actually made them re-join, I lost half my list. The reason was because half of them were "freebie seekers" that had absolutely NO intentions of buying anything EVER. Those that joined on their own were potential customers interested in buying at some point (or who had already bought).
3. Hit them up on every page
You need to make sure you have a newsletter subscription box on every single page of your site - NOT just in the navigation and NOT just a link. Gift them a box to enter their email right there. Your visitors usually won't go the extra step of clicking a link to get spammed. I know you are not planning on spamming them, but when you give a link that says "sign up to receive updates", you give the impression you want their email address to do just that.
4. Make eye catching titles
You need to give your visitors a reason to subscribe to your list other than "to get updates". That's boring, and they probably don't care. Tell them what KIND of updates they'll be getting - like new products, services, subscriber only discounts, contests, etc. It needs to be right there above the place they enter their email address too, not on a separate page.
One last note - not every visitor is going to become a subscriber. A very small percent will ever actually hand over their email address. In fact, most subscribers will be those who have already purchased from you. This is why it's so important to give them the option to subscribe after purchasing (like on a "thank you" page of some sort). Those are the people you want to keep in closest contact with, since they've already purchased from you once before.
