It's that time of year again. We will be walking on May 16th and 17th and I can't wait. Last year I was new to being involved in our community and now I know so many people it will be a blast to walk all night and hang out at the campfires. Smile It was also my first year as a team captain. Every year I will get better. I have big fundraising plans for next year that include a fun run on St. patty's day with our local brewery! But anyway...

This year is extra special for me. I have a new friend that is very dear to me. Sounds like I'm 5 doesn't it. lol But honestly, we are good friends and it was less than a year ago that we met. She was diagnosed with Hodgekins for the first time at 21 and then again at 22. I can't imagine going through anything so tramatic at that young. But she survived and she's strong.

This past month was her 10 year anniversary and check up. They officially say she is cured.

Without the funding of the American Cancer Society, I may never have met this wonderful woman. She wouldn't have made it without all the research grants that ACS helps or completely funds.

I have had many family members pass away from cancer and also some survivors. ACS is important to me because it could very well be finding a cure for my own cancer or someone else in my family that hasn't been diagnosed yet, since it runs so rampant in my family.

Every penny is appreciated.

Glad to see you involved with Relay for life.
This year we're donating 100 Affordable Mineral Makeup items for the one in Orlando, FL to give...one of the team leaders gives to her 'group' of people there.
It's a great cause to be involved with.

Glad to hear your friend is strong and she'll continue to be so!
praying and believing!

My gym donates big as well. We'll give away quite a few memberships and I've created certificates for free training to go with the memberships.

Although I have to say, I'd much rather be walking in Florida overnight. Laughing Still can be cold in May around here. We never know.

One thing I didn't know before this year is that if you need someone to pick you up and take you to appointments, the american cancer society will set you up with a volunteer to do that. That is so cool!!!

I really wanted to head up the committee for education, but I knew if I took on one more thing I would do it horribly. Maybe this next year I will be in a position to talk to them about it.

I love to hear that other's are involved. Good cause, good fun, and lots of good stories are always passed around.

We are walking on April 26. My husband was diagnosed last year with testicular cancer so we have experienced first hand what this relay is about. We have walked previously, as many in both of our families have been afflicted. With the new innovations in chemo, his cancer has a 3% chance of reoccurring, which is great. He also only had 3 months of treatment.

Hats off to all you relayers!

Also, it can be hot here, so not much better to walk in- with the humidity, the most likely rain that will fall, and then the heat! It is the sacrifice right!?

YEAH! More walkers. I'm glad he's down to only a 3% chance. I'll look forward to his 10 year anniversary and being proclaimed cured!

Me too, me too!!!! I got my team captain information last week and have started recruiting walkers.... We have 8 so far and I'm sure we'll have even more by the time the walk comes.... Ours is May 30th.

Our county is a bit behind and does not have a county page Crying or Very sad So I can't get a page from theirs.... he said they are working on it, but that in the past two years, they've only collected about 5% of their donations online and that it costs $350 to have a site Shocked so they don't feel it's worth it....

We are walking in honor of Becca and all the other cancer survivors as well as in memory of a few friends! One of the women walking with us lost her husband two years ago to cancer.

So, what are your team names???? We need to come up with something good!

Bev

My mother is also a cancer survivor and participated in the relay a couple of weeks ago.

They have a photo board for people to put pictures of loved ones that they lost due to cancer.

My mother posted a photograph of my dog. That was really touching for me, because cancer is a horrible disease that effects not only people, but our pets too.

Aww, that was sweet of her. We lost my childhood dog to cancer.

The luminary lighting ceremony is very emotional and beautiful to watch.

One question that keeps haunting me.

HOW??

How do people get cancer? How do animals get cancer?

Is it our food? Pollution? Chemicals? Drugs? I mean, now we're hearing that drugs (chemicals) are in our drinking water, the plastic bottles are toxic and so on.

Hey, good article. Thanks for the idea!

But seriously, what are your thoughts?? It's not always hereditary, and it is not always from smoking.

Let's throw that question out there!

Joan

I wish this was in June. We just got done with our fitness challenge at work and I haven't made it to a single meeting yet for RFL. Sad I just can't do everything at once like this. lol

But it's in two weeks. So if you can donate, please do. Smile I think I'll work up an online party as a fundraiser. Look for that next week.

I'm still not caught up on my sleep. I walked most of the 18 hours. My daughter had some friends that wanted to come over and join our team, so I ended up with more tweens than I thought. lol But they are such good kids! So blessed with her newer friends! So I had them walk a lot too. lol

Our team is almost at $1000 which was my goal. I had one more donation go in on Sat. morning and I'm not sure how much she donated. But we were at $900 when she went up. So I'm really happy about it. Our owner and I talked about all sorts of stuff we are going to start here in a few months. He started a non-profit account so we can do fundraising all year long and leave it in that account!

I didn't get any sleep the night before because of my allergy medecine, so it was 3 nights in a row of no sleep. My body is a wreck right now and I'm canceling most of my offline day. Laughing

Next year will be even more fun! I look forward to hearing our towns final numbers. We had a record number of teams and this year we were shooting for $75,000 I believe. We are not a big town, so RFL is always uber impressed with out numbers. I'm sure we went well over that number.

I just got an email from the head of our committee. Our goal was $73,000. Last year we raised around $65,000 and got the award for fundraising the most per capita. This year we raised $80,000!!!! We are sure to get the award again this year.

Next year our team has high goals for fundraising. I'll look forward to posting next years numbers at over $100k.

Opportunities these days are looking for investments at any level. A simple loan can be taken to finance the money for the investment. One of the better options out there is stock trading, the margins are high and the business is successful. Another one is real estate investment, for which one can get a mortgage refinance services to get a lower interest rate loan. Other small opportunities are providing insurances like cheap car insurance or supplying services in the finance sector like merchant credit services.
