I am seriously thinking about putting a couple of my websites up for sale - but have no idea of how to attach a value to them, and set an asking price.

Are there domain appraisal services out there? Or where do you to get help with something like this - preferaby free help! LOL!

There is an appraisal on godaddy if you go into your domain account. It's the tools tab in the domain manager section.

Other than that, it's anywhere from double or more of the income for the site for a year. It's not an easy thing to come up with because it has so much to do with the potential of the domain and site and we know what the potential could be if someone had the time to put into it.

If you do a search for free site appraisals you will find a lot of them. Not sure if any of them are good or not though.

I know that's the thing - I've got all this time and money put into the sites, but that might not add up to a hill of beans if the income has never really been there. It's set up to have great potential as it is, plus there is so much room for growth with it, the premise of the site (in my mind) has room for expansion. But how do you, or can you put a price tag on that?

I'll have to take a look at GoDaddy's tool. Never had a need to even give that a second glance so I kind of forgot it was there.

Anyone have any experience with any reliable free services - I'm open to suggestions! I'll report back what I find out about GoDaddy - may go there next. Wink

Looks like Go Daddy is $4.99 for Express (more of a basic) or Certified Appraisal is $14.99. So I'll weigh my options and see if anyone posts any other ideas here.

I wouldn't pay for anything personally. They can give you a price, but that doesn't mean it will sell at that.

While Val is right, godaddy can give you a price and it may or may not sell at that...people hold stock in what godaddy appraisals are moreso than any other appraiser for sites/domain names.
I've sold multiple sites and domains and have gotten what they were appraised for, few of them even more than appraised value.
so the $4.99 to me is worth it.

Yep, if I were to do anything paid I would probably go with the GoDaddy basic one, just to get an idea of what their opinion can be - also like the fact that the appraisal is posted on a secure website I can refer others to. Gives me something to back up my asking price with.

Though I can say that I've seen other appraisals before and didn't agree with the asking price - though oit was too high. Way out of my price range, or ideas of what I thought would be a fair offer. Wink

I had a car related domain that they appraised at $979 and I got an even $1000 for it...and while most people wouldn't fathom payin that, there are lots out there that do Smile
