|
|
I do have another goal that I'm going to be working on and it has absolutely nothing to do with business ... I vow to QUIT SMOKING!
I've made this goal and tried so many other times it's not funny. But this time well, this whole pluerisy thing has really scared the heck out of me. If you look it up online the C word is mentioned a few times. And to give you a little background here ... my father passed away at 52 from lung cancer. Hello?!?! Am I a moron or what?
I did say that I want to wait until I get through this pluerisy though because well number one, I've done nothing but sit on my rear all week. The meds make me smoke more. And, I don't want to have to deal with withdraw while this is going on.
But, I already asked the dr for a prescription to help me quit. As soon as I'm better I will be taking Wellbutrin, going back to the Nicorette AND taking St. John's Wort. As you can tell, my goal is not to just quit smoking but also to quit without totally freaking out on my family!!!
Take care,
Anita _________________

Well, I'm working on day 2 here. My goal got started a little more quickly than I had originally planned since I ended up in the hospital and I'm not allowed to smoke here.
I did ask for a nicoderm patch and they got me that soooo, believe it or not, it's not been too bad! (Phew!) Don't get me wrong, I certainly have my cravings at times but it's not really been that.
I'm really determined to make this happen this time! Hubby said he's going to quit too. Although, those long exhales I hear when I'm talking to him on the phone aren't saying that, lol. But, I've asked him to make sure there wasn't anything left in my car. Like I don't even want to see an empty pack in my trash bag! I've asked him to get rid of the ash trays at home and not to smoke in there for a couple of days till I get home.
I'm no dummy ... I know my house is still going to smell like smoke. I won't ask him to like sanitize everything while he's trying to take care of the kids himself, working full time and making sure he comes to see me in the evenings. But, any little things will help and he's been a complete doll for me!! He's really "holding down the fort" and making sure everything is taken care of! What would I do without him?!?
So, from here it's just going to be one day at a time. In the meantime, I think I need to come up with a nice little reward for myself ... Like something special I can buy myself or do for myself in a week or a month or something ... I mean think of all the money I'm going to be saving!!
Take care,

You can do it!! Kind of a silver lining (so to speak) of you having to be in the hospital-the nurses and early morning blood technicians are the ones who have to suffer though your crankiness. And you were planning to go with the Nicorette anyway, so the patch will be a nice carry-over or, maybe keep going with what works.
At any rate-yes, defintitely reward yourself! It's a big step, and a huge accomplishment that I'm not 100% ready to tackle yet myself. So more power to you!
Tell me what the first smell you never noticed is when it happens! _________________ Lauren

Working on day 5 here ....
It did get a little tougher. I was afraid of what might happen when I came home. In the hospital, I had no choice but to ignore the cravings (unless I just decided to go awol, lol). But now at home, I do have that option/ability of being able to just jump in my car and go get a pack of cigarettes. (But I haven't ... and I won't!)
Like I said, I had been on the patch in the hospital. And for those wondering ... the nicoderm patch does work (well at least for me anyway). Problem is, when they sent me home from the hospital, they also sent me home with $127 worth of prescriptions too!! So, let's add this up a bit ... no work for 2 weeks = no money coming in. Now, let's add another $127 for prescriptions (and that wasn't even getting them all filled) ... nope, no money left over to buy the patches now.
On a side note ... And I won't go crazy on these because I easily could ... but yeah, I'm going to mention it!! What has our country come to? That $127 that I'm having a hard time paying ... that's AFTER insurance has paid! And we have a semi-decent prescription plan!! So, how does one possibly survive without insurance? It's crazy!! I'd be praying every day I didn't get sick - or worse yet, that one of my kids didn't get sick!!
And ... what's up with the insurance company NOT paying for patches anyway? Yes, I know if I add up what I spend on cigarettes, it's going to save me a lot of money in the long run ... Just because I buy cigarettes, doesn't mean I buy them a couple cartons at a time. Sell me one patch at a time then?? So, the insurance company won't pay (or even help with) quitting agents ... they'll just wait until they have to pay for the oxygen tanks we lug around or more and longer hospital stays ... and unfortunately, kemo treatments???
Okay, off my soap box ... I didn't do too badly there.
So, back to my patch ... I did manage to be able to bring one patch home with me. I was holding off as long as possible to change to the new one (yeah, sucking every bit of nicotene out of there!) The new one was supposed to go on last evening. Last evening was a little rough. I couldn't stay out of the fridge or the pantry either Guess it's a good thing the doctors WANT me to put ON weight? Cause put me on steroids ... and quit smoking?? Oh yeah, I see some weight coming on, how bout you??
Anyway, I didn't put the patch back on last night. I got up this morning and I was okay for a while ... for a little while. Then it was starting to bug me a bit. So, I chewed a piece of nicorette. That does help, but for me in my opinion, it doesn't help as much as the patch and it doesn't last nearly as long. I finally gave in and changed the patches ... and yeah, it made a big difference. So, at least it's going to get me through one more day.
Put another check on my calendar. I really want to make this happen this time!
Take care,

Way to go, Anita!!! I am so proud of you for sticking to your goal. It is not easy to quit any kind of habit and it's worse when there is a chemical involved. You can do it!!
A few years ago I was working with a woman who was quitting and she said cinnamon helped. She bought a TON of cinnamon gum. I've heard that Power-Pops help people quit as well. They just pop one in their mouth when they have cravings. They are cinnamon flavored ones as well. I'm not sure what all meds you're taking, but if you can use Power-Pops let me know. I'd be GLAD to donate some to ya if they'll help. Send me a PM or email with your addy and I'll get some out to you right away. It's the least I can do to help you and your family. _________________ Christina Wiley, CHBC

How are you doing?
Have you found some where you can get free patches yet? I can't believe there isn't some kind of health place that will help for free or a big discount. I'd call your local health department to double check. _________________ Val

You know, I just can't believe insurance companies won't pay for them - or at least a portion! But we won't go there again, lol
But, after my daughter told us to take the money out of her savings account to get them (isn't she just too sweet? Told us they were more important than anything she wanted.) ... My inlaws bought them for us
And now to top it off ... little Miss Christina just put a little care package in the mail to help me out too! Another super-sweet gesture! Thanks Christina!

Anita - GOOD LUCK! I know how tough it is - my mom quit (for hopefully the last time of many tries) LAST New Year's so she has been smoke free for over a year now! I know how hard it was on her(and us!)
Good luck to you!
PS - I didn't know you were in the hospital! I hope you are ok and are feeling better! _________________

Awww Sandy ... you changed your picture - gosh she's a cutie!
Thanks for the luck wishes ... I can use all I get. LOL Although, I gotta say, it certainly is getting much better each day!

Well, I was ... at least I thought I was getting better. But I'm afraid maybe I went back to work a little too soon
I ended up back at the doctor's again yesterday Boy, there's nothing like thinking you're on the road to recovery and then you wake up one day feeling like you're back at day one When the alarm went off yesterday, I rolled over to turn it off and about screamed ... there was so much pain. My temp spiked and my head even started getting all "fuzzy" (that's the only way I can describe it, lol). So, I went back to the dr - she took yet more blood work and she's going to speak with the specialist that seen me in the hospital. I go back again tomorrow.
But (thank God) ... I didn't have to go back to the hospital. She told me that I really should be there but if I promised to do absolutely NOTHING - she'd let me go home. She said that hubby and I had to pretend I was in the hospital and I wasn't allowed to do anything but get up to go to the bathroom. (LOL)
Soooo, now I have to wait for the blood work results and I have this sneaky feeling they'll send me for another CT scan tomorrow. I'm hoping not ... only because I'm afraid if I get too close to the hospital, they'll keep me. That's what they did to me the last time. I went for a CT scan on Monday and didn't come back out until Friday!!
So anyway .... here I sit yet again
In the good news department ...
DAY 10
Take care,

I also wanted to say
THANK YOU CHRISTINA!!!!
I received the "little" care package. And I say "little" with quotes because there was nothing little about it! You really didn't have too ...
I've already had one of the Power Pops (cherry) and it was delicious!
I'll start with the Omega 3 Krill Oil tomorrow.
And hubby stole the jerky sample He loved it! We'll be back to your website here very shortly - he's preparing his order ROFL!
Really, it was way more than I expected - thanks so much sweetie! I so appreciate the support.
Take care,

You are SO welcome, Anita! I should have known better and put two samples in there. LOL That's my favorite flavor/style of jerky. I get four bags of it a month and eat it all up!
Yeah for you on Day 10!!! Ten years from now you'll be saying "Year 10". I can't wait to hear that!
I'm sorry to hear you're still feeling awful. No fun at all. I'll keep you in my prayers, Anita. He is able to heal afterall. Have a great night! And don't do anything. _________________ Christina Wiley, CHBC

Thanks ladies! I so appreciate the support! But I gotta say ... I really feel it, I do rock! LMBO! ONLY because I just feel like it's really going to happen this time - I'm on my way to be a non-smoker!!
And yesterday was the first time I smelled cigarette smoke since I quit. That was a little tough but ... really not as bad as I thought it would be. I guess I just lucked out up until then. I hadn't realized that I hadn't smelled it until then. Let's just say I knew it then! LOL!
Soooo, how long do I have to go before I can say I'm a non-smoker??
Take care,

I say claim it now! How often did you smoke before? How many times a day? I'm sure if you multiply that times 10 you're way past that in how long it's been since you smoked.
You can't say any longer that you're quitting. That sounds like you're in the process, but still doing it. You HAVE quit! In this case it's okay to be a quitter.
You aren't "on your way to being a non-smoker". You aren't smoking so you are a non-smoker!!!
That's how I see it. I invite you to join my point of view. _________________ Christina Wiley, CHBC
