5 Easy Ways to Build A Profitable List

After reading countless articles and many success stories of people making a profit, you finally realize that you need a good mailing list. So, you learn everything you think there is to know about building a list and follow all the advice to the T but you still don't make a profit.

So what could have gone wrong?
Why have others succeeded where you have failed?

The first and usually the most common mistake is that you dove right in. You chose a topic you thought could be popular and jumped in head first. Thought being the key word here - no research - nothing more than guesswork.

Luckily, you can kick start your existing lists or even start from scratch with these easy tips:

1) Know Your Customers
A good place to start is to join forums to gain knowledge about your potential customers (target market). Here you can learn things such as their wants and needs and target them. You'll also be able to share your advice and knowledge with fellow forum members which also helps in building a trust between yourself and potential customers.

2) Ditch the Freebies
One of the easiest ways to make your list completely unresponsive is by running a contest to get subscribers. You want your list to sign up because they want to hear what you have to say, not because they want something free.

3) Earn Their Trust
You must earn the trust of your customers in you and your products first. Simply launching a newsletter does not make you an expert in your field and certainly does not make the sales roll in every time you hit that send button.

The fact of the matter is, the money will only come in when the customers and subscribers believe and trust in you. They want a product or service that is a good exchange for their hard earned money. People are not going to buy something just because you recommended it if they don't know you.

4) Write Articles
Writing articles before your launch will assist you in gaining trust and start branding you as an expert in your field. After reading some of your material, customers will get a better feel for what you're about and your skills. Include a link to your newsletter subscription page in the bio of your articles.

5) Network & Learn
Network with other publishers. This would be especially beneficial if you work with someone who already has a successful list. This would be someone who has experience which is the best teacher. There's plenty of information available but there is nothing like getting a first hand account from someone you trust. Experienced list owners would be able to tell you what to do and what not to do.

Remember, building a profitable mailing list doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to build the list and it takes time to build the trust needed to be profitable. So, be patient and as your list grows, maintain the quality that you started with and you'll be sure to have a profitable list full of loyal customers that will continue to give back for many, many years.

Nope, these were from MHMM ezine and I couldn't remember if we had you set up on doing these are just for the ones for the DS ezine. I didn't know mainly because I didn't used to write articles for MHMM ezine. But now it's one of my goals to write as many of them as possible myself.
