Can I possibly get more information on what a cleanse is supposed to accomplish?
Go ahead and post here. I just want to say ahead of time, that I won't mean to offend when I ask you questions back. But I really want to understand the basis behind it. I've been thinking of trying one just because so many people do it and I want personal feedback to give them. Not just what I've learned at school.
So give me the low down on what all I'd be doing, for how long, and what it's going to accomplish. TIA! _________________ Val

I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can and ask all the questions you like as I'm up for it! LOL
1. What is a cleanse supposed to accomplish?
A cleanse helps rid the body of toxins that the body can't detox on it's own for whatever reason. Toxins come from food additives, air pollution, processed foods, etc., and if our body can't get rid of these toxins on its own, we will sometimes experience health problems including suppressed immunity, inability to lose weight no matter what you do, fatigue, increased inflammation in the body (which has been linked to some cancers), food sensitivies that we may not have had before, gas and constipation, bloating, and/or skin problems.
I can't speak for other cleanses (except for Dr. Natura, the colon cleanse, which I have done), but I can tell you that this one is not fasting, not starvation, no "funky" stuff, and instead of being just a cleanse for a certain organ, this is a cleanse for the whole body. The way this one is done is through what is called an "elimination diet," so that you can find out foods that you are sensitive to that cause bloating, headaches, allergies, etc, and it heals the gut (if you don't have a healthy gut, you are not getting rid of the toxins). There are 5 things eliminated and one of them is sugar and the other is gluten. I do have other documentation, but I haven't looked into it enough yet to see what other things. And you will slowly add those things back in to see what causes your body problems.
2. What would you be doing?
It's pretty basic - eating actual food and taking supplements to help in the cleanse process. Also, either exercising, using a sauna or getting a massage or all three if you wish! Also, there is a "test" to see which plan you should go on - either the high candida or the low to moderate candida. I was kind of surprised at the result of my test, which was an indication of high candida, although I have been on antibiotics quite a bit, so I guess it shouldn't have really surprised me.
3. What would it accomplish?
The nutritionist has done this cleanse with hundreds of people and here are some of the outcomes:
- Fatigue gone/increase in energy
- Felt "lighter"
- Improved sense of general well-being
- Got rid of symptoms of IBS
- A break in a weight loss plateau
- Sugar cravings decrease and/or cease to exist (sugar cravings are one sign of too much candida in the gut)
- Gas and constipation gone
- Skin problems improved or gone
- Better immune system
- Better sleep
- Weight loss
And those are just the things I could write down quick enough! LOL
3. How long?
This one lasts 3 weeks, but she said she has had people that wanted to stay on it another week, so I guess someone can stay on it for 4 weeks if they want. I personally only have intentions of doing 3 weeks and will see how it goes.
I feel like I left something out even though this is so long, so please feel free to ask more questions! _________________ Jennifer

Hmm ... this sounds very interesting. This is something that has been a very popular thing to do around here lately. However, this isn't quite what they do. The thing that people around here in something w/ a foot soak.
After all the meds I've been on in my life due to my Chrons and then just all the pain meds I've been on since the first of the year. I just feel like this is something I should do!
A lot of the accomplishments really made me think but this:
| Quote: | | Got rid of symptoms of IBS |
really got my attention! As I mentioned, having Chrons. Well, a lot of the symptoms I have w/ my Chrons are similar to IBS. As a matter of fact, I've even have some people call it IBS rather than Chrons.
Maybe this is something I need to learn more about!
Take care,

I've never heard of the foot bath thing. That sounds interesting!
I'm sorry to hear about your Chrons, Anita! About 6 months after my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, so this would've been early '05, I started having some serious problems (diarrhea for 6 weeks straight, going to the bathroom about 18 times per day - yes, I counted! and I lost about 20 lbs. in those 6 weeks), and was finally diagnosed with IBS brought on by the severe stress I was under. At first, when I had this stomach upset and diarrhea for 3 days, the docs thought it was a stomach flu. Not until I was on the 9th day did they start considering that it was something else. I ended up having a colonoscopy (because of blood in my stool) and some blood work to rule out other possibilities.
Around the same time, my cousin was diagnosed with Chrons and she told me some of the things that goes on with her and it's just horrible!
Aside from that, the reasons I want to do this is because I was on prednisone last fall, antibiotics I don't know how many times in the past 6 months, and I've just had some of these symptoms that I know are caused because my gut is not healthy. One of the things you do before starting this cleanse is called a "spittle" test and the nutritionist said this is a good test to show if you have too much candida in your body. I took the test and I definitely do. Plus I have started experiencing food allergies (dairy) that I NEVER had before, so I know something isn't "right."
The thing I like about it is I will actually get to eat! I know a lot of programs, you either have to fast or restrict your calories severely and I just can't do that. I have to have real food...LOL! _________________ Jennifer

See, and those are VERY similar to the symptoms I suffer from with my Chrons. The two are very similar. Do you still suffer from it or is it under control?
I've been on prednisone many times over and over. As a matter of fact, I'm on it right now because due to all this stuff I've been dealing with, I was unable to get my treatments for my Chrons so we went with the prednisone to keep in under control in the meantime.
Colonoscopy, so much fun, eh? I've had about every test you imagine in that territory I probably shouldn't have said that. I'm sure there's something they haven't tortured me with yet, lol!
Take care,

LOL! I'm sure they could think of something!
Is mine under control? Sort of. I rarely have diarrhea, but I am at the opposite end of the spectrum now, if you know what I mean. It "seemed" to be under control for a while whenever I got my stress under control, but now it's the extreme opposite and I'm not really stressed. So while I do take something all natural to help get things moving, I know there is something wrong and it also makes sense that I am toxic because I know the nutritionist said on the call that if you're constipated - you are NOT releasing toxins. So here I am, definitely NOT releasing toxins! LOL
Prednisone just stinks! Not that I have to tell you that, but I absolutely hated being on it. My MD thought the wheezing I was having was caused by fluid in my lungs, so he put me on it. Well, it seemed to help, but then as soon as I went off of it, the wheezing started again. This was last September. So I knew that I had turn my back out some time when my dad lived with me in '05, so I go to the chiropractor in October of last year. Yes, my upper back was completely screwed up and so he started working on me. Well, the wheezing seemed to get better for a while. But then I really started drinking a lot of regular milk. I used to drink soy milk rarely, but since I use our shakes, I thought I would switch back to regular since it was cheaper. Well, it got to the point that I could barely breathe I was wheezing so badly and then I started getting extremely fatigued after drinking this milk mixed with my shake. I mean seriously, I would get up early, be perky, drink my shake, and be on the couch 1/2 hour to 45 minutes later!
So I started reading on the internet - one thing I found that I had NEVER thought of is the antibiotic they give to cows (that does get into our milk, of course) is penicillin! Well, I am allergic to penicillin! Then I was reading about dairy allergies and the symptoms and yep, I had the wheezing, the fatigue, AND eczema! So I stopped drinking regular milk about 3 Fridays ago. I went all day Friday and by Saturday, the wheeze was gone!!!! I have never had a milk allergy, that I know of. I mean I used to drink a lot of it when I was young, and I have struggled with eczema since I was young, but then after I got older, I just wasn't a big milk drinker until I first started on the shakes back in September.
The bad thing is - I have been trying to continue to eat regular cheese (gotta have it!), but I have noticed that I get extremely tired after I eat it. No wheezing again yet, but I am going to look for soy cheese tomorrow and if I can't find it, well, I guess I have to give it up for a while, at least while I am on this cleanse and see what happens when I start to add it back in and go from there. _________________ Jennifer

Wow! You so sound like me! LOL! From one thing to another because of this and onto another! There was one time I was on a really high dose of prednisone and I had gained 30 lbs in 3 weeks. Yeah, an average of 10 lbs a week! And heck, that's what happens when you're eating big macs for snacks! Seriously, it was like my stomach was a never ending pit. But then again when you couldn't stand to eat anything for about 3 or 4 months and now all of the sudden you can eat ... yeah, that's what happens, lol! And needless to say ... I ended up quite large through that!
Take care,

YES! I gained weight, absolutely! And did this happen to you? Did you eat foods that you didn't even really like before?
When I was on them last fall, it was time for this big festival that we have here every year. Well, I had eaten before we left to go to the festival. But when I got there - OMG! I was eating hot sausage sandwiches, which okay, I have one of those every year - it's my tradition. But then I ate a bag of cotton candy, which I don't really care for. But the worst part was - I ate fried bread dough! Yuk! Pooey! Gross! I don't even remotely like fried bread dough, and I ate a whole plate of it!!! And if that wasn't enough, then I ate 2 slices of pizza! I mean that was more than I eat in a whole day and I did it in under 2 hours! It was like I couldn't stop.
I would have much rather gained my 10 lbs. from a Whopper w/cheese from Burger King! Hello?! LOL _________________ Jennifer

LOL! I don't think I've done that though. Everytime I start on it, I always ask hubby to keep an eye on me. He's like you want me to stop you from eating?? He's convinced it's a trick!
Take care,
