Can I get some input on my website? I know it needs major work, as do my other sites but I would like to get an idea as to where I should start. Can you take a peek at http://www.losingitandlovingit.com and help me brainstorm?
I know I want to work on a blog (it's not linked up to the site yet because I have no clue how to use Wordpress but it is a WP blog that we got from Cpanel at Host Gator).
I will also need a newsletter and would like to add a chat room to do weekly or monthly chats with some of my weight loss/fitness groups.
I need CONTENT and I do know I want to add a section on Fitness recommendations (I have the Exercise link but nothing on it yet). In this section, I'll integrate Amazon.com affiliate links for dvd's, exercise equiptment, etc. I have written one article so far. Do I add this article to my site and weave in affiliate links OR do I submit this article somewhere with just my info at the bottom of it?
I am building this site with XSitePro and need to dig more into my XSP manual to learn all about the different things I can do. Hubby is a pro at XSP and I would like to follow in his footsteps
As you can probably tell, I so need help big time and have no clue where to go from here. What are your thoughts?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

I'm assuming you don't know how to get it set up? I myself am brand new to WP. We just started the new blog at WP the other day. However, Kara got it set up. Let me give her a quick heads up. Let us know what you're having a problem with.

You could add your own chat room or you could use another chat room that is already set up and promoted to a list of over 200 Check with Val about Mom Chats You'll have a ready made list that your chats will be listed on I recommend doing something like this for now ... and that will give you more time to work on what you already know you need ... Content.
And lots more Which apparently you're already aware of that. There's another reason to chat with Val Maybe you two could work something out together with her site http://www.busymommawellness.com
And another thing you REALLY want to do is get your newsletter started. Get that set up now ... like first, lol!
Okay, I gotta go eat dinner before hubby goes crazy here but I'll be back
Take care,

Think about this for a minute ... If you take that article and submit it to directories, you're going to start getting traffic to your website. Now this is good, right? I mean isn't that the main goal? Sure it is, but you're bringing visitors to a website without much content. You want to work on bulking up your website some more before you start bringing in more traffic. Now keep in mind, your website is never going to be "done". I would just get more content.
And definitely get your visitors email addresses. To do that ... get working on that newsletter. Give your visitors a reason to come back (which I love the chat idea!)
Does this help some?
Take care,

Make that chat subscription over 300. Lauren and I were just "chatting" about it last night. Oh wait, that was this morning. You know, when she and I make all the most important business decisions.
So let me hit your questions first Angie. This will be a super long post, beware.

Wordpress is super, super easy. You will love it. When you installed it, you should have hit the send me an email with the installation info. That gives you the admin log in url, your user and password you put in. So go to the admin and log in. Then your dashboard will come up. Delete the comment and first post that are on there, they are just to show you how it will look.
There is a section called manage at the top. Then subsection of catagories. So hit that. Now you can set up what catagories you want your posts to be put in. IE: recipes, exercises, just for fun, weight loss, etc...
Then of course you can hit the section at the top that says write and it will automatically come up to the write post area. Title and write your post, click what catagory you want it filed under, UNCLICK THE UNCATAGORIZED button. Hit publish and the post will show up.
That will get you through the basics. Play around with it in the admin and you will find lots more fun stuff.

Newsletter for sure. Go get that immediately. We've listed lots of programs over the years, so you just need to go and figure out what one you want to use. Then go get your sign up form from that program and get it very visible on your home page and at the bottom or side of every page. Creating a newsletter page itself is always a good idea. Then you can discuss what the newsletter will be about.
Weekly and monthly chats. Yes, let's talk about that. I've been wanting to do them as well. But alas, I know there is no way I can put more on my plate. lol But Momchats is free to use and as I wrote above, I have 307 subscribers to it as of last night. That's a good number of people to send out your chat info too each week.

Definitely get some content on your site before you start submitting to other places. You need to give them something to read when they get there. Write down a list of articles you want to get done and then it will be easier to get them started.

Lucky dog, you have in house help. Patty is a big help for me, but sure can't beat someone looking over your shoulder to show you want you are trying to do lol
So start with that. Get some affiliate buttons up. And make sure and let us know anywhere you are stuck on or would like help. I'm always looking for page specific link exchanges. I am switching over to xsitepro very soon though, so not sure I want to add the links for a week or so. No reason to do the work twice.
Have fun! _________________ Val

I have my WP blog set up but I just need to learn how to use it. At this point, I *think* I need to do an upgrade of some sort because I heard they have an updated download or something. Val helped a lot in the post below so maybe she can help me with this issue

I will definitely be in touch with Val about using Mom Chats for now. That is a great idea until I can get my own chat and it frees up some time to take care of the more important tasks _________________ ~Angie~

It totally helps and now I 'get it'
I will keep that first article for my site and work on incorporating my affiliate links into it and adding more content.
And I am going to get working on the newsletter. Actually I started brainstorming it last night and asked for some input on one of my weight loss/fitness groups so I'm on my way. Just need to get my P.O. Box and order Aweber. I did sign up for the Aweber trial run last night but I'm 100% sure I'm going to just go for it so I don't need the trial
Thanks again for your help!

I just logged in to WP this morning and deleted the post you were talking about. Whew one thing accomplished I'll work on brainstorming my categories now. Thanks so much for the tips.
Do you know anything about this new download they are talking about? I heard about it somewhere that if you have version 2.1.1 or something like that it should be upgraded? I have no clue how to do that nor do I know what version I have. Would I find this info through cPanel at Host Gator?

Getting my P.O. Box today and will order Aweber this weekend. I had asked in the ezine forum if I had to have my P.O. Box before I signed up for Aweber. I would imagine I could sign up and get started learning about the service and then add my info before I send out my 1st newsletter. Is that correct?
I'll definitely be adding a newsletter sign up form to each page and I would like to create a newsletter page like you mentioned. Thanks!

Yes, let's do talk about this....I don't have much time myself but I wanted to at least get started with monthly chats through the summer and if it goes well, maybe move to weekly or bi-weekly chats. I appreciate your willingness to talk about this option.
| Quote: | Definitely get some content on your site before you start submitting to other places. You need to give them something to read when they get there. Write down a list of articles you want to get done and then it will be easier to get them started. |
I'll work on making that list but it takes me FOREVER to write an article I need to find places where I can use their content on my site in the meantime. Do you think that's a good idea?
| Quote: | | Lucky dog, you have in house help. Patty is a big help for me, but sure can't beat someone looking over your shoulder to show you want you are trying to do lol |
Yep, I'm very lucky that Kev knows the ins and outs of XSP but I don't want to bother him much with this since he has is own work to do but I know he'll help me if I get stuck. He's the best

I think this is definitely enough to get me started. Don't want to totally overwhelm myself I would like to talk about link exchanges once you're ready. What do you mean by page specific link exchanges?
Thanks soooo much for all of your help. I really appreciate the time you are taking to help me.

I'm running out the door. But to upgrade to the newest version, I just go into my fantastico panel, click on the wordpress and it shows me what wordpress programs I have loaded to the hosting account. It will also tell me if a new upgrade is available. Then I just click upgrade now. I love fantastico!
But your wp will work just fine with an older version. Don't worry about that.
Also as far as catagories, don't worry about them ahead of time. Just create posts and figure out what catagory that post would fit best in. You can create a catagory right when you post as well. You can also change the catagory name at anytime, you aren't stuck with it. _________________ Val

I thought so ... I really did, lol. I just didn't want to say 300 and have it be 200. I'd rather under-shoot that over, know what I mean? LOL
| Quote: | | What do you mean by page specific link exchanges? |
I'm not Val but I can help ya here. She means "specific pages" for example, she'd rather exchange links with a weight loss website on a specific page about weight loss instead of doing a "link page". Make sense?
Take care,

Yep, once you get your stuff on your site. Then we can chat about exchanging specific links for each page. So your exercise page would have a link to my exercise page and vice-versa. Not a link to the main url, but to that specific page.
Oh and I'm gonna pm you some info for content. _________________ Val

Yeah, try to take it in slowly. I've been there, done that.
Does it help to tell you that it gets better? OR that you have so much info that you worry about being a "know-it-all"?
I promise that you will feel better about it all. The problem is that you are having to take it all in at once. When I started, there was no such thing as SEO and no one had really done a good job on the newsletter thing except the big guys. Wait, I joined before Tupperware even had websites. OIY, I'm getting old at only 34! _________________ Val
