Ok, here I am again with another "I don't understand" question.Where does one go to write a Newsletter?
When my site was finally up and running, I went into my email program, wrote a letter with a link, of course, to my website. It was basically an announcement of the arrival of Maji Designs and asking everyone I knew to pass the link on to everyone and anyone they knew. So..that is my first newsletter? Where do you go to write a weekly one? I did not design my website so I don't understand web talk. I do know that I have a shopping cart thru OS Commerse, Authorize Net does my transactions and GoDaddy is my hosting. Do I use any of these quys. OS Commerse does have a newsletter feature but you can only send, text, to current customers who have registered and since I am new, I don't have any!! No one has bought anything from my site yet. It's only been up for about 3 weeks as pay site but was up for a year as just a informational site but with no shopping cart. _________________ Maji Designs

I'm super glad that you are asking questions! Newsletters rock for bringing you business. First off there are many places to use for your newsletter.
Some common free one's are www.ymlp.com www.bravenet.com Both also have paid versions when your list grows.
My favorite program is aweber. It is $19 a month, but so worth it in my case because I have 5 newsletter lists and I can keep them all there in once spot to manage.
Now you can use the OScommerce option, but that will only go to people that register to your site. So not a good source to get to the masses because most people won't sign up to your site until they order.
What you will do is check out those programs above and choose the one that works for you. I have used the first two, and still use www.ymlp.com for one newsletter, so if you want to email me specifically I can walk you through it for each program. Anyway, choose the program you want to use. Then when you sign up, there will be a place to go in and get the form html. You will then place the form on your front page. It will just need to be name and email address. Then people can sign up and feel less of an obligation.
Once you have members on your list the fun begins. You decide the frequency of your emails. Then decide what you are going to put in it. Are you going to go over the benefits of leather vs. metal? Maybe go over the different meanings behind gems. Then of course you put in your specials and any new products, with links to them. You can sell ad space once your list grows or put in affiliate links for other related products. Now all of this will get typed up right in the newsletter program itself. It's all web based, you just log into your account and build the newsletter. Proof it and hit send.
I feel like I just wrote you a book. I hope I didn't ramble too much and actually made some since to you. Let me know how I can help. Again, I can walk you through any of those programs specifically. You can even start a new post on here for whatever program you choose. If you need to know the answer, then I'm sure some of our other 1000's of members and the many more lurkers can also use the information.
Most importantly, don't let it all overwhelm you. There is a ton of stuff to do with a new site. Getting the newsletter up is a good first priority though. _________________ Val

Thanks so much Val for taking the time to help me. What an awesome world of people out there!!
So I signed up with Your Mailing List Provider and I will get started on a Newletter. Wow.
Next question. I have the opportunity today to work with an old friend of mine who I will hire as my ghost writter. Now she can either write an article for me or my Newletter. Which on should I get at first? Also, where do I submit the article. Ezine something??? _________________ Maji Designs

Val, what would I do without ya sweetie? Sounds like Val was right on top of things with her answers. Don't forget, there is a section in Kick Start on this also
What I would actually recommend is doing one for the newsletter first. Give your subscribers (or future subscribers) the fresh content first. What we tend to do is publish an article in our newsletter first, then give it to our affiliates, and then submit it to other article directories. So, the article can be used several times But yeah, I recommend giving your subscribers first crack at it.
Where to submit? I have a list on Mommy's Helper to submit articles:
http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/submit-articles-for-free.html
I do want to mention that this list needs updated desperately So, if anyone uses that list and comes across a link that no longer works ... please feel free to let me know!
Take care,

Well, I did it. I hired a good friend of mine who wrote a great article which we submitted to Ezine.com and then slightly changed it and I sent out my first Newsletter, via ymlp.com mostly text with an attachment to 76 Subcribers. I am so proud. For next months addition, my goal is to learn the download that they provide to add color and that wicked thing I am having such a hard time learning, html.!!! How can I share my newletter with all. How about this. Go to my website http://majidesigns.com/, sign up as a subscriber to see my newletter about "how to purchase that special gift for Mom's/Grandmom's Day". _________________ Maji Designs

Correction to previous post. I submitted my article to Ezinearticles.com, not Ezine.com. Sorry. _________________ Maji Designs

Good for you!
Now just a couple of notes here . . .
First of all, ya love me, right?? I have to go through and change all my ebooks that recommend YMLP.com because I no longer do and I actually recommend NOT going with them anymore. They pulled a horrible stunt not too long ago resulting in us loosing many subscribers and just a big ole pain in the rear. I actually felt guilty for recommending it too so many people. I KNOW a lot of people use their services because of our recommendations. Anyway ... if you'd like to see more about what they did, you can read it on our (OLD) blog here:
YMLP Changes Prices & Policies
I just wanted to give you a heads because I feel as though you might have chosen YMLP.com based on my recommendation. Since you don't have a huge amount of subscribers as of yet, and we're starting to help you really build your business more, if you're even slightly thinking of changing, I would do so now. Only because the more subscribers you have, the more chances you have of loosing them. Unfortunately, we lost a ton of subs throughout different ezines/newsletters we have ... and Kara lost out on 700 subscribers because she lost the entire list
I really feel bad because I feel like I'm going back on my word but I never ever expected any company to pull something like they did this time. What they did was completely and totally unacceptable.
So through all that ... there is another provider that I have been using and I am absolutely in love with them. It's not free however, it's ten times better than YMLP ever was. This company is Aweber There is another post here about Aweber and how others like them also. As soon as I'm done w/ this post, I'll go find it for you and come back.
Now, for the other note I wanted to make . . .
| Quote: | | mostly text with an attachment |
I highly recommend to NEVER send an attachment with your newsletter. Unless it is an absolute MUST ... then go ahead but make sure it's a very, very, very good reason why. The only reason I'm saying this is because thanks to spammers and viruses, very few people will open your newsletter with an attachment
If you have any other questions about your newsletter, please don't hesitate to ask . . . this is one of my favorite subjects!
Be back with that link in just a moment!!
Take care,
