Have any of you tried this $7 e-book thing? Supposedly you buy an e-book for $7 with Paypal; you are then authorized to promote it, sell it, etc. on your own website.
I think there is also a place where you can write your own report and market it in a similar way. _________________ Anita Hampl

Kara and I own libraries full of ebooks with resale rights. Some have been more than $7, some much less. But yes, you can then offer them on your site for sale as well.
Writing your own ebook is a great idea. Once you set it up you earn money from it 24/7. You don't have to deliver anything, it's all handled electronically. _________________ Val

I've bought some that I'm getting ready to sell, and I'm also working on writing some of my own. It sounds like a great idea! I like that everything is handled electronically. _________________ Denise

I've bought some, I've even re-sold some and I'm even working on writing one. However, something is not quite right with those right now and I'm not sure how/why etc. I had gotten a newsletter the other day that said this:
| Quote: |
Hi Anita,
No doubt you heard all the commotion over Paypal
shutting down sites that use the $7 secrets and
similar scripts.
Before we all jump to conclusions that the script
is to blame I think we should look at the facts.
Fact #1:
There has been no official word as to why these
sites have been closed.
Fact #2:
I can find nothing in PayPal's aup that would
lead me to believe that any site using the $7
script or similar scripts such as The List Formula
would violate that policy.
Until we get more concrete facts it's nearly
all speculation.
Without facts to base our decisions on let's look
at some things that we do know about and that may
have a big impact on PayPal's decision to shut a
give site down.
First - it seems that sites which heavily advertise
the affiliate opportunity instead of the product
are at higher risk of being shut down. Sites that
make claims of affiliate earnings I believe are at
the highest risk.
Second -- and this is more speculative than any
thing -- the forced optin may be an issue. As I said,
this is not concrete.
Again, and I stress this: there is no concrete
evidence that I can find (this comes after reviewing
well over 100 posts and searching PayPal's aup)
that would suggest all $7 type sites will be banned
by PayPal.
I think that it would be in the best interest of
those who promote using the 100% commission strategy
to focus on the product on the sales page and the
affiliate opportunity on a completely different
venue.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,

I honestly don't have a clue as to what is going on. But, I also wanted to show you this:
http://www.7dollarsecrets.com
(As of right now, that site says: Down for now.)
That website is the site that started it all. He had the very first report and started this new "technique". Why on Earth paypal would shut something like this down, I'll never know. I mean they should be thrilled that we're all using Paypal!! They're the ones that are getting all the extra fees!! (Can ya tell I'm a little upset here?)
I can't belive I haven't heard from anyone else about this other than in that one newsletter.
Has anyone else heard / seen anything?
Take care,

Well I guess I don't understand what the $7 ebook thing is. I never read it. I just assumed it was talking about how to price your ebooks. What is this about forced opt-ins? Now that I could definetely see as grounds for them stopping the site to investigate.
But they can only stop you from being able to take payments, they can't shut your actual site down. They don't hold power over anything but their payment options.
So what is so different about selling these ebooks than any others? _________________ Val

I don't know that "forced optins" is the best term used here. Yes, it IS however ... let me explain. (I'll try anyway, lol!)
The idea is this. You write a report, an ebook etc. You put up a certain script that allows others to include their paypal link to buy the report. (For $7) The seller gets all the money but the original writer gets buyers email addresses to ad to their list. Before you download the report you have to submit your email address.
You can look at it something like a mix of resell rights and being an affiliate. The "reseller" gets all the money but the "writer" gets new subs. KWIM?
Yes, that's the thing that makes me wonder the most ... Paypal doesn't have the ability to shut down sites. UNLESS they're working with hosts?? I really don't know what is going on. I just know I got that email and the site was down??
Either way .... I really think I'm going to take my course and do one of a couple things.
I might just keep the money myself.
I might start an affiliate program.
I might give the ebook away for free.
OR ... I might start an ecourse.
I don't know if I'm going to mess with all this or not.
Take care,
