Not sure if I want to yet but I have a few companies now and I think it would be great to have one area to see them all. What do you think? Average cost to do this? Is it easy to do? Anyone do this kind of stuff around here? Did, I use up my limit of questions in this area?? _________________ ~ Nicole ~

Nah, no limit at all around here
Let's see ... if you're building the site yourself, average cost is (*through Mommy's Helper Domain Names & Webhosting ) for a domain name it costs $7.85 a year. For webhosting, that will range anywhere from $5.95 a month to $19.95 a month. Depending on what all you want to do, the $5.95 a month plan is usually enough.
As far as building goes ... Is it easy? Nah, not really easy but, well, what I always tell people is if I can learn it ... anyone can LOL! Aside from some help from Kara, I am pretty much self-taught. A nice little helper would be Kara's book - Step By Step Guide to Starting Your First Website And of course, your friends here at Mommy's Helper too
Now if you're paying someone else to do it ... this might all be a different story and depending on who you get to do it ... it might end up being pretty pricey. As far as anyone here who does it ... I'm not sure right off hand here. I'm sure someone does but I can't think of any right off hand. (And now I know someone is giong to come along and I'm going to kick myself for not remembering, lol!)
Hope this helps some!
Take care,
Anita _________________

Nicole, do you know any html at all?
If not, this really doesn't matter. I didn't know any html when I first started my sites. I just decided I wanted to do it and got to learning. I also bought frontpage. Depending on where you do your hosting, you don't have to buy a program at all. Anita has great hosting options. I haven't checked out what programs come with the hosting, but I know there are some free one's you can use to build your site.
I personally love hosting with "fantastico" in the admin. There are a ton of web building programs that you can install with just a click and any other program you can think of for your website. Boards, blogs, etc.
I'll post some links for you to check out. But I was supposed to leave 10 min. ago. We can get you building it yourself, no problem. It won't be perfection until you get it down some more, but it will encompass all your links for you.
Another option is to just open a blog as your site. It's super easy to do with wordpress. You would just do the same thing of buying your domain and hosting. Then install the blog program as the domain. Wordpress let's you set pages so it doesn't look like a blog.
Ask any and all questions! We're here to help you get it done! _________________ Val

Nicole-
I've built 2 websites, both self-taught thru Kara's book. And there was a lot of help right here. So ask away-if you decide to build it yourself there are lots of us here to answer questions. Anita, Kara, and Val taught me everything I know! _________________ Lauren

I haven't been brave enough to build my own site from scratch. There are site builders that you can use which don't cost a lot. They have templates that you can adapt to suit, but it probably depends on how complex your site is going to be. Places like Site Studio and Mr Site are pretty good. They don't compare to doing your own, though. _________________ Anne

This is what I did because I am really a big untechie person.
I get domains from godaddy. I use hostgator hosting-unlimited sites for 9.99 a month. And I use web page maker to build the sites.
I can not afford to pay someone to design sites for me and plus I want the ability to go in and update and make changes to the site at any time.
Web page maker is set up so that anyone can make a site, it's really easy. And if I want to change the site around the next day I can.
So far I have 3 sites online that I made with web page maker and 2 more I have been working on. I also signed up to be an affiliate for hostgator and web page maker for my wah site because they are products I currently use as a customer and have been satisfied.
That's just what I did, but there are lots of options out there especially if you are a techie. |

The one thing I would like to add...DO NOT use a builder like the one with website dynamics! I have three sites with them and unfortunately the only way I can get them under my hosting is to copy each page individually and place it into a template. It is not like cpanel. You cannot just take your site...your site is not really yours...the content is...but no the "site."
If you can avoid that type of builder DO! _________________ Designed by Lara - We are a FULL service design company. Right now we are offering TWO for one button and banner design!

These days you can create a website with a minimal amount and no experience.
I didn't have a clue when I designed my websites, and then I found a great HTML Editor where I didn't need to know any coding. It's free for an earlier version, and inexpensive for the current version with free upgrades as well.
So it's basically just your domain name to pay for, and hosting - I use hostgator, and then your software for website design, unless of course you can find a good free one. _________________ Michelle
