Team Motivation Tips for Summer
by Kara Kelso & Anita DeFrank
Having a hard time getting your team together this summer? If you're like most direct sales reps, the summer has been flying by at a record speed. Between vacations, lounging days in the sun, taking the kids to the park, trips to the pool and who knows what else, it's probably been very difficult to get your team together.
You need to keep in constant contact with your downline. (But you already knew that, didn't you?) Most people won't go out on their own without the oh so slight nudge of their upline. Just a little reminder every once in a while - on a regular basis - is all you need.
So, what's one to do since it's gone all this time without contact? Read on ...
How about an end of summer contest?
Pick 2 weeks to hold your contest. Contact each of your members and tell them that for two weeks, whoever recruits the most team members, wins. Remind them to pull out that list of possible recruits and contact them. This is just the motivation your team needs to contact those who seemed interested but just weren't ready yet.
When should I hold it?
When you contact them, also ask them when would be a good time for a little get together. Take in account all the days and times available and try to satisfy as many as possible. Keep in mind, depending on how big your team is, you may not be able to make everyone happy.
Where should I hold it?
If your team members are local, maybe take them all out to pizza and announce the winner. Another idea is to have them all over to your house for a spaghetti dinner. (Remember to keep the receipt - this is a tax deduct!) Do you have a swimming pool? Invite your team over for a swimming party. Invite the family too! The children can continue to swim while you sit out on the deck and hold your meeting while the husband play horseshoes on the side lawn. (Picture this: Relaxing by the pool with your favorite drink talking business.) Just because it's your business team - doesn't mean it has to be all business.
If your team isn't local, don't count them out. Hold an online party. No, not your traditional online party because you're not going to be selling to them of course. But, set it up just as you would an online party but, the prizes can be promotional materials such as catalogs, brochures etc. Another idea is buy them an educational product such as an ebook or motivational materials. (Hint: Book your party at MomChats.com)
But, what about the prizes?
That's the easy part! Have an overstock of something or maybe something that you just can't seem to sell. Give those away. Let your members know that they can keep it for themselves, add it to their display or outright sell it. Another great prize would be the gift of education. Buy motivational, or info products for prizes. Here you're killing two birds with one stone. Not only are you giving them a prize, but you're also teaching them to be a better sales person. (Hint: A copy of the Direct Sales Success Kit is a sure-fire winner!) And lastly, you may consider using promotional materials such as brochures, catalogs etc. With this prize, you're helping them get more sales.
Either way you go, whether it's local or it's online, take the time and try to congratulate each of your team members. Before the party, make a list of something that each of your team members have accomplished. Do your best to announce something for everyone. That little bit of acknowledgment might be just what someone needs. And most of all ... have fun!
