What if you have a wordpress blog with your own hosting and domain and the hosting disappears? How do I get the blog back? I did not set up the blog or anything. This guy offers cheap hosting and I took it and he set up the wordpress blog and now the hosting is gone forever.

Valerie-

Is there anyway to get ahold of this guy and see if he has a backup of your WP database? You have no access to the files now? Have you tired to log into your blog's Admin Panel? If you can get in there-you MAY be able to download the db files to your computer. Val was helping Amber with this earlier this week.

Here's the link to that post http://www.mommyshelpercommunity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6098&start=20 scroll down to the middle of the page.

Otherwise-you may be sunk. And from personal experience I know the feeling of losing all of your hard work to lame hosting! (No not Anita's this was a different hosting) Hope you're able to get your blog back!

I don't know a lot about wordpress. I thought maybe there was a way to go to the wordpress site and log in and be able to get the blog to another host.

I know this guys email but I know he doesn't have any backups.

So what do I do, point the domain name to another host and have to set up wordpress again and start all over? I don't even know how to set up a wordpress blog, this guy did it for me for buying his hosting service.

This is a lesson not to buy hosting from some guy selling it from his home, but go with a reputable company instead. I already have hostgator hosting and I should have put this blog there too. This would not have happened with them and I don't have to worry about hostgator just disappearing overnight.

I am upset Mad All my work for that blog is gone Crying or Very sad But it wasn't very old, it was only around 3 months old. So it could be a lot worse.

Can you add your blog domain to your HostGator account? (You will need to change the Designated Names Server for the domain though. HostGator has cPanel, and that offers one-click WordPress installation, so there isn't anything to setting it up. (It's in Fantastico towards the bottom of your cPanel Admin page)

Sorry you lost your blog. Even three months can be hard to recreate sometimes. But you're right, better than years of content lost!

Let us know if you need any help!

I so know your pain. I deleted my blog on accident over a year ago and went through all kinds of anguish. But I don't want to rehash that. lol

Unfortunately, this is a horrible lesson learned. It's not necessarily the hosting, but the fact that you hadn't back-up your databases. You should do this at least once a month so you have a copy to work with in case something like this does happen. Sad I know this, because of the above. I had to learn the hard way too.

Then it is easy to get your own wp blog. Go into your hostgator hosting account. Click on add on Domains which is on the top row of icon's very right. This will ask you for the domain name, user and password. So put the info you want it to be there and hit the add domain button. (these instructions will be the same for anyone with cPanel)

Then go to your domain account and point the nameservers for your blog domain to the hostgator servers. They should be the same nameservers you used for the original domain you opened your hostgator account with.

Now go back into your hostgator hosting account and scroll to the bottom and you will see a smilie face icon with fantastico written under it. Click and it will bring up a totally different looking page. Blog programs are the second option down and wordpress is the bottom of that short list. Click on it. Then click on the words new installation that are in the body of the page.

The very first spot is install in directory and it will give you a dropdown. You want it to be the domain you just installed for the blog. Do not put anything in the directory blank which is right underneath it. This will install WP directly to your domain. Then fill out ALL the rest of the info. Make sure you are writing down all your passwords and user names that you are creating also. Wink

Hit install Wordpress and it will load the program for you with the default theme. You won't be able to get into your admin until your domain resolves, but that is usually quick.

I can help you get the past posts, but this is long enough and a good start. It's a long process to get those posts, but we can do it. Like I said, I had to do this same thing. Sad For me, I'd had so many personal posts that i wanted to keep forever, it was worth my trouble to go grab the posts.

Let me know when you are ready for more help.

Hey Val, that was extremely helpful. Thanks! I will let you know when it's all set up and ready to go. This is really a good lesson to back up files!! I can't believe I didn't do that! You just don't expect your blog to vanish overnight. But anything can happen.

Great, glad it helped. I hate to rush you, but you need to get it set up soon. Google could do an update at anytime and we need to try and get as many of the cached pages as possible before they are deleted from google. Wink

Ok I have never installed or even tried to attempt to install wordpress before but I followed the instructions step by step so it should be all set to go now. (I also had a custom header I guess I can email the guy who designed it to see if he still has a copy) Still banging my head for not remembering to do a back up!! Thanks Val for taking the time to give easy to follow instructions!!

Valerie-

You may be able to grab a copy of your custom header off of a cached page of your blog from Google. In the Google search box type "site:www.yourdomainname.com" - without the quotes and with your domain name in there. Then hit enter-it will bring up a list of all of the indexed pages that Google has for your domain name.

Click on the underlined link and it'll take you to that page. Then try to save your custom header - Right click on the picutre, then go to "Save Picture as..." and save it as a .jpg file on your computer. Then you shuld be able to insert that into your new blog once you have the template you want. Hint: you will want to have a template that allows for a customized header.

Let us know how else we can help! Hope my suggestion works for you to get a copy of your header. Wink

What is the domain so we can check it out? Also, the way Lauren described how to get your header is the same way we need to go in and grab all your old posts.

Then in WP we can back date them. Wink

Ohhh, that doesn't work. Guess the blog hadn't been indexed by google yet. It didn't come up. Wonder why google didn't index it when another site of mine was indexed very quickly. Oh well guess I'll just have to start over. Well it was a lesson learned anyway.

Opportunities these days are looking for investments at any level. A simple loan can be taken to finance the money for the investment. One of the better options out there is stock trading, the margins are high and the business is successful. Another one is real estate investment, for which one can get a mortgage refinance services to get a lower interest rate loan.
