3 Basics of Business
by Kara Kelso & Anita DeFrank
Even if you've been in business for awhile, it never hurts to review the basics of online business. No matter what type of business you are in, there ARE basics that every business needs to succeed.
Before we jump in let us say this first. These are not marketing ideas or plans. These are the absolute basics you need BEFORE you begin marketing. If you've already started marketing your business, not a problem. It's never too late to start over in order to succeed.
1. Build a Website
The absolute basic of any business online. If you don't have a website, you are going nowhere fast. Blogs are quickly becoming an alternative to websites, so a blog is acceptable as well. Although your blog still needs to be a professional blog on it's own domain name if it's your "main site".
2. Start a Newsletter
Another absolute must. Even if you only announce company sales once a month, you still need a list of those interested in buying (or those who have already purchased from you!). Don't take the cheap way out - make sure you have a professional newsletter provider from the start. Trust us, this will save you from major headaches in the future.
3. Community Involvement
We're not talking about spending your entire day at message boards and groups. Although you absolutely need to be a member of at least 2 or 3 communities. Stop by at least once a week to offer advice and share your comments. Spamming does not count as involvement, and forum owners (members too) are wise to this. Don't think a close knit community will do business with someone that does nothing but spams.
Once you get yourself set up, THEN you can start marketing. If you are missing one or more of these three basics of business, do what you need to do immediately! It's never too late!
