Unfortunately spamming is an issue that all message boards must deal with from one time to another.
The more popular and larger the message board - the more the spammers want to attack them. Of course they want to get their message accross to as many people at once as possible.
So in attempt to keep the spamming down to the barest of minimum - we've taken many safety precautions and are always on the lookout for more and better measures to take.
Some of the measures we have take include the following:
Moderators
We at MHC have probably more moderators in place than the average message board. The more moderators we have, the better our chances are of catching the spam and removing it immediately.
Please know that our moderators do their very best to keep up with it as much as possible. Aside from someone being here 'on duty' 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - it is humanly impossible to keep up with every single spam post.
Some of our moderators have further access to our admin section. Those who catch the spam there not only delete the spam but also ban the membername, IP address and email address - banning these make it impossible for anyone trying to use any of these to join the boards again. The banned username, email address and IP address are banned for life.
Signature Lines
Many of these spammers only join in the first place to get a backlink for the search engines. To do this, they simply join the boards and add a signature line. We have it set that a member must make at least 2 posts before being allowed to add a signature line.
This deters them from going any father once they cannot submit a signature line.
Automatic Bot Sign Ups
We have mods in place that make it impossible for bots to automatically sign up to our message boards.
Word Censors
We have many, many word censors in place. Anytime someone uses any "adult natured" word on our list, the word is automatically changed to SPAM - DO NOT CLICK
This helps us in more ways than one. If you're visiting our boards and see that message - PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. We do this for the safety of our members.
It also stands out to our moderators so that they can remove it immediately when they log in.
Again, please do NOT click the posts that say SPAM - DO NOT CLICK.
Rest assured that we at MommysHelperCommunity.com are continually doing our best to protect you, the message board member. We pride ourselves in the quality of our boards and we intend to keep it an active community for our members to network and learn from one another.

Just another note ...
We have to be very careful about what words we add to the word censor list. It could become quite embarrassing for a member who is posting a legitimate post and ends up having SPAM - DO NOT CLICK come up in their post.
That said ... occassionally some spammer messages still manage to use words in the subject lines that are not caught in the censors. However, you can usually tell by the subject line and the username.
If you see a post that you're just not sure about, and you're easily offended, don't open it. If you come back later and it's getting replies then you're probably okay.
As usual, we're still fighting the battle of spam. It's such a shame that we have to go through this but we are doing our best. Feel free to thank our moderators for the job well done that they do. I know I appreciate it more than they'll ever know!
Thanks so much for your understanding in this matter. As I mentioned earlier, every board has to deal with spam from time to time. I've yet to see a board that doesn't. All we can do is strengthen our forces and fight back.
