For the most part - for simplicity reasons - an ezine is simply another name for an online newsletter. The following is an excerpt from an ebook I started writing a long time ago. I just never found the time to finish the stinking things! lol!
| Quote: | Depending on who you ask, you’ll get any number of definitions for newsletter and ezine. To be honest with you, anymore, I don’t know that any answer is completely right. It’s really a matter of your own interpretation. And I don’t believe the newsletter (or ezine) police are going to come after you because you used the wrong word I use the word anymore because so many have come up with their own interpretation and have used whichever one they want that it’s difficult to put a specific definition to either.
The way I’ve always distinguished them is like this:
An ezine is generally longer and more in-depth including articles and more information on a particular niche.
A newsletter is generally a quick update of “new happenings” of a website, business, company etc (such as new products, specials etc.)
According to webopedia.com, this is the definition of them both:
---------------- [ Definition ] ----------------
Newsletter
Shortened form of newspaper and informational letter. Generally used to describe a periodic publication distributed by e-mail to an opt-in list of subscribers. Newsletters are normally used by organizations or owners of a Web site to communicate with their readers. Some companies may sell targeted ads within their newsletters.
Ezine
Short for electronic magazine, the name for a web site that is modeled after a print magazine. Some e-zines are simply electronic versions of existing print magazines, whereas others exist only in their digital format. Most e-zines are advertiser-supported but a few charge a subscription.
---------------- [ Definition ] ----------------
With that said ... I’ll let you come up with your own conclusion. |
Anyway - this might help clear this up a bit. Might be quite a bit more detail than what you're needing but hey - you've asked an awesome question and you never know who else might have this question too.
If you have any more questions - please don't hesitate to ask!
Take care,
