I had signed up with vertical response a while back, and never really started it. I'm thinking I may give it a try.
Anyway, are most newsletter signups double opt-ins these days? I would like one that is single opt in, and not sure if I want to go the bravenet route. _________________ Visit: http://www.SunsetOnTheHill.com Personalized Toddler Backpacks, Chalkboard Mats, Bibs, Quilted Wall Hangings and More! |

I see that some of you use ymlp.com. I'm going to check into that. _________________ Visit: http://www.SunsetOnTheHill.com Personalized Toddler Backpacks, Chalkboard Mats, Bibs, Quilted Wall Hangings and More! |

I don't know about Bravenet, though I guess it may be the same, but with YMLP, if you use the free service you have to go the double opt-in route. You can "opt-out" of the double opt-in by using their paid service. I think that is $2.50/month. _________________ Lauren

Yes, as the ladies have said ... if you go with the free version for YLMP it is double opt-in only and having double opt in CAN save your butt big time. We had someone report us as "spamming" one time. All we had to do was show that our newsletter is double opt in and bingo ... we were safe.
See what tends to happen sometimes is husband and wife share an email. Wife (or hubby) signs up to something ... doesn't tell the spouse (or forgets they even signed up) and then reports something as spam. Being reported for spam can be very serious if it is pushed. It can go as far as loosing your hosting!
So, yes, I HIGHLY recommend going with double opt in. There's many, many other scenarios like the ones above that can happen. Having double opt in means that someone not only signed up but then had to confirm their sign up also.
It also cuts back on "bot sign ups". I'd much rather have a list of 500 real people who are responsive than 1000 bots that no one is ever reading the newsletter.
May I ask why you wouldn't want double opt in?
Take care,

Gotcha. I think I was just real sleepy when I asked about it. I totally see the reason why behind it. To me, when I sign up for a newsletter, it's just a pain. LOL. I went back to my vertical response account and am messing with it again. _________________ Visit: http://www.SunsetOnTheHill.com Personalized Toddler Backpacks, Chalkboard Mats, Bibs, Quilted Wall Hangings and More! |

Good, glad to hear it
Although, I definitely see your point though too. And up until I knew better ... I figured, the easier way to get subscribers the better. I guess in a perfect world full of honest people that'd be okay, lol.
Take care,

Even though two of our newsletters are on the paid version of YMLP, we still use double opt-in. Like Anita mentioned, the quality of the list is MUCH higher, since we know they actually WANT the newsletter. That's the main goal of having a list in the first place - making it responsive! _________________ ~Kara Kelso~
