Has anyone used this portal software? I'm just looking for ease of use. I've read some ebooks about it and it seems pretty straight forward. I'm just worried about getting into the same thing I'm in already. A program that is hard for me to customize myself. Confused

Please let me know your experience with it so I can weigh the pro's and con's before I load it up next week.

Hey Val,

I've used Joomla and it can be a little confusing when you first set it up. The interface is nice, but there's so much in the admin area. If you've been reading books, it will probably be easier for you the first time. I have to say that adding content (pages, articles, etc.) is really easy once you figure out where you want them on your site. I recommend Joomla to anyone who has a little time and patience to learn it because once you get it it's a wonderful system.

What kind of customization are you talking about when looking at ease of use?

When I took over scrapfacts she was using phpnuke and it is horrible to use. I think if i had been the one to set it up then I wouldn't have as much trouble with it. Now she did put together a new version of the site in xoops. I forgot about that and dug out the admin through the hosting just last week. Now xoops is much more user friendly and I have a feeling I'll be able to use it.

For my new portal I may try out the joomla though. I believe they are owned by the same company, so I may just do another xoops site. lol We'll see how using it works on scrapfacts.

My biggest problem has been adding sections on phpnuke. I've wanted to add ebooks and I just can't figure that out. But I'm noticing that not a lot of people like the phpnuke, so I think it just has to be ignored. Laughing

Thanks for answering my post. Smile

You're welcome, Val. I'm sorry about the last reply, but I've been out of town. It's good to be back though.

I'm not familiar with xoops. I'll have to take a look at it. But I'm glad you were able to get something together that would work for ya.
