I am curious about how to do a membership website- I would need a way for people to log on, to manage the people that have paid or not, etc. Anyone have an idea that does not require PHP, which I do not know, or other programing things. Or does anyone do this? If we have the content, can the setting up of the membership part be separate without complete web design?

I would recommend going with a program/software. For example, I know Bravenet has something like that. Depending on what exactly you're doing with it, I'm not sure I would recommend Bravenet but that was more of an example. And I can't say for sure but I hate to tell you but I have a feeling you're going to find out that a lot of them are PHP. Trust me, I feel your pain. I know even less than the basics of PHP. However, with our up and coming project ... I have a feeling it's on my list to learn, lol (Yeah, fighting tooth and nail against that!)

Hope this helps some!

Later!

LOL! Yeah, that's about the easiest answer I can give ya. Find a program to do it for you, lol! I don't know any off the top of my head but I know they're out there. Well, and it depends on exactly what you're wanting to do. I certainly wouldn't try to build something like that ... and I had requested a quote on having someone build me something similar to a membership site. And well, he was well over $10,000.00 in the quote! Nah, nevermind! LOL!

Later!

aMember is a very well used and highly recommended program. Wink It just inserts in your site and you can create your pages in regular html with password protection. It's not that expensive for a program either. It's on sale right now. Yes, that is my affiliate link.

Since I'm about to put in a second membership area I'm thinking of using it instead of working with yet another site in php. I totally know your pain. PHP is like an alien language. At least with html I can go online and search for a code to use. With php I can't find anything. I can't figure out where to look for the code to change or what to change. Laughing

The portal programs are cool, but I just get lost behind the scenes so much. Just give me plain old code to look at.

I just wanted to mention that I have a subscription/membership website that was developed by Subhub.com. I wanted a professional website, but I know next to nothing about creating a website. I also wanted something that would keep track of members' subscription, payment plans, autoresponders, etc. Even though Subhub is more expensive than Bravenet or something like that, I feel like it will have a bigger payoff. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jennifer@listplanit.com

OMG, Jennifer did you really pay that much to have the site designed? They did do a wonderful job, your site is great and looks professional like you wanted. But $2,400 is so outrageously high and I would not recommend anyone paying that much. There are lots of cheaper options out there that will do just as good of a job.

Please don't take offense at this reply, because like I said, your site is wonderful. I'm just in total sticker shock.

Mine is a subscription website. There is a lot to keep track of and keep up with when you have members coming and going. My priority was to do right by my subscribers. I wanted to be confident that I could keep up with the correct information, and thus far, I am highly satisfied by the service I've gotten from Subhub. There are many who have paid far higher prices than I have. This may sound a bit defensive, but I had only wanted to offer the method I chose to create a subscription website. Others may choose differently. That is your perorogative. Thank you for your comments.

I just want to make sure that you understand that the last thing Val meant to do was offend you. I can't quite sure tell by your response if you were or weren't but just in case, please keep in mind ... there is no way that's possible Wink

And really, knowing Val the way I do, I think I can honestly say that I believe her post was more of feeling sorry that you had to pay that much. But, you know what they say about hindsight.

With that said ...
I do have to agree that I would have a hard time paying that much for something like that being installed. Actually, and I don't mean this in an offensive way at all, I wouldn't. Only because I know that it can be done for so much less.

I had not too long ago searched for someone to build me quite a custom site that would offer some of the same things that you've mentioned and my first quote was over $10,000.00 and there's no way I'd even think of investing that kind of money.

So, I continued my search and was able to find a program/software to do what I was wanting done for umm it was $300 or $400. It wasn't easy for the inexperienced to install however, I'm sure we could have found someone for $100 or $200 - or somewhere around there.

But again, with that said ...
If you're happy with what was designed for you and you were able to invest that amount then, that's fantastic. You being happy with what you have is the important part Wink

But, to others who may be looking for something like this - again as I mentioned earlier - depending on what exactly you're wanting to do with it - please don't take your first quote or the first program you find. Please make sure you research.

Hope this helps!

Take care,
Anita Razz

Don't worry about sounding defensive. Wink That was why I totally asked that you not take offense. I know how things can blow up online because we can't hear voice inflection and see facial movements. My only worry is that someone will see the price of the program/design and then decide they can't do a membership site of their own.

Yes, it works wonderfully for you and that is what matters. Very Happy And they did a beautiful job of creating a "brand" for you. It's instantly identifiable as YOU.
