That makes sense, Val. It's been quite a few years since I took Cricket's class, and it is a very good one.
I think for a lot of the new people, they are probably going to find that their target market isn't really who they thought.
I have an online colleague who this just happened to. She thought her market was one group, yet it was an entirely different group of people that were finding her site via organic search.

When I started taking that class my target market was Mom's. How broad is that? lol Now I'm not saying I do all of the SEO I know I need to but at least I understand better what I'm not doing.
And just when you do find it, won't it change again? _________________ Val

Yup! So very true Patty! And Val ... work at home moms were my target, lol! Which yes, it still is but I've honed in on that niche which is just too huge and came up with a couple smaller niches within.
Later!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the new SEO class starts sometime this week if you care to sign up.
I'll be taking it again because it was overwhelming and hopefully this time, I'll be able to get something done I have learned a few things but need to go back through and hopefully the rest will sink in LOL _________________ ~Angie~

I too took it twice. Actually, if I remember correctly, I think I took it more than twice, lol!
Take care,

Ok, ladies, I am just beyond frustrated LOL
I, for the life of me cannot figure out how to do keyword research. I just cannot comprehend it for some reason and I have read instructions from 3 different ebooks, can you believe it? Would someone be willing to walk me through the basic step of how you look for keywords/keyword phrases to use on one of your pages? In simple terms for someone like me
I wish I could just GET it _________________ ~Angie~

Angie,
I'll try to help. I use two different programs...let's start with the easier one....go to http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
Once there...type in the phrase you are looking for. Let's type in recipes...since that's something I look for...go ahead...type in recipes...click on "suggest" Now type in the graphic box..and click go. Scroll down. Look at all the phrases folks look for.
I will not go after the top searches....way too much competition. Scroll down....at the bottom is the phrase "bisquick recipe". Hmmm I could write some content and offer some recipes that use Bisquick. The phrase gets over 300 searches per day. That's a lot of folks who MIGHT want Tupperware. It's worth me adding content on that one phrase....
Now clicke the phrase "bisquick recipe". Now look at the right hand side. Very niche oriented. I could actually create an article or content page for several bisqucik related recipes. I want to give folks what they are looking for.
If I can be number one for 10 phrases that 2 people look for each day...I just might get 20 visitors per day to my site. If I go after the keyword "recipe" I might be on page 50 of google.
Does this help????? _________________ Audrey

Oh my goodness YES YES YES, Audrey, you are so great. I think I get it now. WOWIE
So is there a special number I need to look for or could I just pick something under 300 searches a day and try to optimize my pages for those phrases.
I have heard that it's best to try to optimize for a 3-4 word phrase rather than 1-2 words. Do you find that to be true?
Those steps were really helpful. I truly appreciate your help! _________________ ~Angie~

I don't go after certain numbers....instead I go after words/phrases that are lower search numbers and my chances of being number one are better. I'll even optimize a page for one search a day....if 365 people find me at number one...that's great |
I'm the same way ... Well, I can't say I've ever optimized for one, lol (not that this is a bad thing ... I like your way of thinking) but yeah, I look for even the lower search numbers too
Take care,
