Last week My mySpace was hacked into by some guys and my site was just ruined. Unlike every other user in there, i didnt only use my page as just a personal profile. I also used it promote my Scented Candle home business that i was running. With rusty thoughts i was willing to spend a little money on getting my own site. So i was searching the web for an online website solution And i found www.ekwa.com that is specially giving out free sites with the options of blogs and articles all in one site. How cool is that! Now i know why Jesus said 'Search and you shall find'.
I let you guys peak my new site once i have uploaded all material. Im so excited!

I'm not a fan of web-based sitebuilders and here's why.
Most are not flexible
Most are difficult to optimize properly
Most are overpriced. For the price you pay on a monthly basis, you could pay one-time and own your own software.
The most important reason, though, is that your site files reside only on their server, so if something happens, your entire site is gone.
You are much better off buying real website building software that you own, that resides on your computer, in which to upload to a web host.
This way, if you ever need to move hosting, you can easily move your site, too.
My personal recommendation, of course, is for Xsitepro

That's so very true because, I'll tell you what ... I knew NOTHING about web design, html or anything of the likes. Now I build new websites on a regular basis, lol! And I am totally self-taught from what I've learned / researched online myself.
I too am not a big fan of website builders such as that - for the exact reasons Patty has shared. You're so much better off sinking a little money into and doing it right. Your business will thank you later
I've not personally used Xsitepro but have heard wonderful things about it ... and you can take what Patty has to say to the bank
Another option would be to hire someone to build a site for you. It's easy to find a work at home mom who would build it for you for a very reasonable price. In the meantime you can learn how to make the updates yourself (which is the simplest of learning) OR you could hire the same person to do the updates for you which would probably be super-cheap.
Like I said ... if it's your business and you're serious about it, you'll want to put a little money into it. Remember, you have to spend money to make money And webhosting doesn't cost that much anymore like it used to. For example, we offer Domain Names & Web Hosting here at Mommy's Helper. You can get web hosting for as little as $5.95 a month and a domain name for $7.85 a year. And if you're absolutely stuck on having a website builder, lol. We also offer something called Website Tonight (and I've seen sites be built in a night!) for $5.95 a month also (includes your webhosting) and know HTML knowledge needed .
Hope this helps some and welcome aboard!
Take care,

Before I created my websites, I had no idea of HTML or website building, and I still don't know much HTML although I've picked up a few basics along the way.
I did so much research before building my websites because I didn't want to spend too much money on the software like Dreamweaver, Site Build It etc etc because I didn't know if I'd continue with it or not.
Anyway I found a neat Dynamic HTML Editor to build my sites with and it was so easy to use, don't need to know any HTML editor and you can put anything you need to put in the website. You can get a free download of an earlier version or the current version is inexpensive and has free upgrades.
They also have a great support forum. _________________ Michelle

Just beware when you use a site builder that you can take the site and run to another host if needed. There are many sites that close their hosting and you are totally out of luck if you can't download those pages and upload them to the new hosting.
I realize it is a hard commitment, but I really do promote buying a program that is on your own computer. You don't need to know html to use dreamweaver, xsite pro, or frontpage. You can buy frontpage for cheap on ebay since microsoft went to the new program that everyone dislikes. lol I'd really like to try the new program and maybe sell off both of my frontpages. I do have an old version and it's awesome to learn on. I've taught myself most of my coding. _________________ Val

At Patty's recommendation I bought XSite Pro and couldn't be happier. I've now designed 2 sites which I'm told look great. XSite Pro comes with templates. What you do beyond the template is up to you. You can add HTML if you know it, or you can stick with their templates and just add text/graphics.
Ok...done with sales pitch LOL _________________ Audrey

I'm not a big fan of these either..
When I first started working online I had no clue at all how to build a website and HTML stuff... But I did start off by using web based sitebuilders. Then I did some research and learned more about HTML and site building on my own. Then after my first year I bought Front Page to do my sites.. Just this year, I upgraded and now I use Dreamweaver for all my sites. I love dreamweaver.. Its a bit pricey, but its well worth it..
The best thing I ever did was learn about site building, HTML and search engine optimization... _________________ Party Supplies

I know this thread is kinda dead, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I started out needing to learn HTML to help a friend I went here: http://www.pageresource.com/html/index.html
It's not the best site in the world, but it easily teaches you the basics and makes you WANT to learn more. Now I program in PHP - big time programming - mostly self taught. But one thing you have to learn about programming that no one ever teaches you is that it's mostly cheating. If you go to my web mall (www.barefootmarket.com - plug) you will see a friendly homepage in construction, but if you click on the stores (Scents and Silmply Silver) those are e-commerce programs I downloaded from the web and just changed around. I don't program in PHP well, but I sure can edit it.
I offer everyone a free website program, it's ready to use and easy to upload: download link: www.dazedangels.com/store
That link will automatically start to download a .zip file. I call it a basic starter website. If you want an example of what it looks like click here: http://www.dazedangels.com/silmariljewelry/ I added the Google Ads and scrolling banner, but that's it.
(step by step instructions on my forum http://www.barefootmarket.com/mommer/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=14)
Once you learn how to add bits and piece to that site, editing large programs is a breeze.
Look at this forum. Download phpBB and upload it to your own web space. It sounds hard, but it's not. And there is a forum for EVERYTHING these days even phpBB - and don't forget adult ed classes that teach you HTML, JavaScript and PHP in 9 months - not joke. Actually after you take HTML you can take JavaScript and PHP together and make it 6 months if you feel you need to. But honestly there is a forum for everything! If you are willing to put in the time, there are people out there willing to talk their head off to help you. Look at me!
