Thanks to the assistance of WAHM, my webmaster helped me create a seperate blog page for my new newsletter - no, it's not quite ready yet, but I'll be sure to post it here when I get it together.
But, I had spent the past two days dwelling over my first article. Low and behold, today I received a company update with some really incredible and impressive news regarding our product. This sets the bar as far as the nutritional supplements go - and it makes our product unique.
The power of positive thinking - and the power of positive support from a group like this is all a person needs.
Thanks to all, and I'll be posting soon! _________________ Joan Bailey

Awesome! That'll make for some great content
Not only did you receive content for your first issue - you were probably reminded as to how often you should send out your newsletter and where you're going to get future content from too
I'm with the masses here ... can't wait to see that link! A newsletter is super-important for your business.
Not just super-important but a must have!
All the best!

Okay. It's taking longer than I thought - but here is my start.

Trust me, I welcome any suggestions, hints, etc,. I seem to be having technical difficulties adding pictures, etc., but I'll eventually work through that. Just wanted to show you that I am actually working on this!

Looking good - looking good! You've got a great start going there!
| Quote: | | I seem to be having technical difficulties adding pictures, etc., but I'll eventually work through that. | Maybe you can post here what problems you're having and we can take a peek. However, I'll give you a heads up ... when I worked with blogger - I had difficulties with graphics too. Let us know what's going and we can at least take a peek

A couple of things that come to mind here (yeah, I always have something to say, lol!)
First of all, I noticed that there didn't seem to be exactly a "method" to your posting dates. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing but, you'll need to ask yourself this: Are you treating this as an actual newsletter OR a blog?
The difference here would be this:
If you want an actual newsletter, you're going to want a set schedule to post. (For example, once a week or once every other week or even once a month.) If you want a newsletter, you're going to want to post on a regular schedule.
If you want just a blog then this doesn't really matter. That's one of the benefits of a blog.
The next thing that comes to mind and this is much, much more important. I see no way for your readers to "sign up". You definitely want some way for your readers to subscribe to your newsletter. This is one of the main reasons for having a blog.
Other than that - it looks like you're doing a fantastic job and moving right along! Good for you!!
Take care,

I know - my webmaster said I'd have to pay for something like this, so I put a notation on my front website about the newsletter. I said that if they wanted to sign up, hit the contact me button (and I hyper-linked that) with their email address, and I would add them to the list.
Still having problems with pictures and video downloads - but links seem to be working okay. I think it is blogger.
However, since I'm just starting - I usually update the newsletter on Mondays and Thursdays. Or, whenever something new falls in my lap - so I guess that "technically" it is a blog - but I won't tell if you won't. _________________ Joan Bailey

Normally I do not recommend free mailing services however in this case if your only option is to use a free service or do what you're doing ... you really should look into one of the free services.
And I'm only saying this for your own saftey. Doing something like this is really putting you out there at risk of being accused of spam. I know that doesn't sound like it's a big deal but really it is.
Government, authorities, ISPs, web hosting companies etc etc have really begun to crack down on spam. By choosing not to use a provider, you're essentially giving up your opportunity to prove that your subscribers have indeed chosen on their own to provide you with their email address.
You can read the CAN-SPAM Act laws/regulations and what can happen on the FTC website here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/canspam.shtm
So all that said ... even though I don't recommend free mailing list providers ... maybe you should check out www.YourMailingListProvider.com OR even Yahoo Groups http://groups.yahoo.com/
As you'll see on the FTC website, with the risk of being fined $11,000.00 or possibly loosing your internet service, web hosting and I don't know GoChi's "rules/regulations" but I'm sure they have a spam clause in there ... it just not worth it

Okay Anita - check it out. When you go to the main page - you can opt-in for the newsletter, or go directly to the newsletter link - where you can also opt in.
It gives you a choice of stating whether you're interested in the newsletter only, or if you are interested in the business opportunity or the product. I had one person (a friend) who opted in the old way - but I couldn't tell what she was contacting me for - except for the fact that she literally typed in that she wanted on the newsletter list.

Now - are there suggestions on make the newsletter more catchy or interesting?
As always, THANK YOU for your expert advice! I'm really depending on you girls!

Just a couple things that jumped out at me. First of all, is there any way of adding the link to your newsletter to the main navigation of your main website page? I see it's over there on the right under Useful links but I think you'll find it much better to have it in the main navigation on the left.
One other thing is on the newsletter itself. You may consider moving it up under the description of the newsletter - a much more prominent space with higher real estate value
Believe it or not, your newsletter should actually be promoted more than your website. The main idea is to catch your reader's email addresses so you can continually keep in contact with them.
Studies have shown that visitors do not purchase on their first visit. As a matter of fact, it's something like at least seven times.
For my main website (Mommy's Helper) I myself am guilty of not promoting my 'list' as often as I should (and I know better as you'll see below). Although, my 'newsletter' is now our blog.
This is actually something I'm working on "in the background" right now. I'm building a new website and my 'list' is going to be the most important aspect. It will again be in blog format (I'm pretty sure) but it will also be updated on a regular basis.
We ourselves have actually proved this with another one of our websites. It's a very popular site that does very well. When we first started this site. Aside from the most obvious of paying for advertising, the only other thing we did was article marketing and in the bio at the bottom of every single one of our articles had a link directly to our newsletter. Our newsletter is the lifeblood of this particular website.
With paid advertising and article marketing, this list grew immensely in a very short amount of time.
Later!

Actually, the newsletter opt-in box is placed towards the bottom of the main page.

You got me here - I am not following what you are saying. Can you rephrase it?
| Quote: | | Believe it or not, your newsletter should actually be promoted more than your website. The main idea is to catch your reader's email addresses so you can continually keep in contact with them. |
uhhh, Do you mean add someone else's business or tie it to other articles? Do you have a newsletter to show me that would better explain what you mean?
Also, what do you mean that you are guilty of not promoting to your list? Should I highlight the people who have signed up for the list?
Sorry, but I just needed a little clarification here. _________________ Joan Bailey

Okay first of all - OOPS!
"One other thing is on the newsletter itself. You may consider moving it up under the description of the newsletter - a much more prominent space with higher real estate value"
| Quote: | | You got me here - I am not following what you are saying. Can you rephrase it? |
What I meant to say was to maybe move the subscription box up. Guess it would have helped if I had said it the right way.
"Believe it or not, your newsletter should actually be promoted more than your website. The main idea is to catch your reader's email addresses so you can continually keep in contact with them. "
| Quote: | | uhhh, Do you mean add someone else's business or tie it to other articles? Do you have a newsletter to show me that would better explain what you mean? |
Okay now it's your turn - you stumped me this time.
What I'm trying to say here is that believe it or not, you should promote your newsletter MORE than your website home page.
In other words, if you were to advertise your website - you should actually be advertising your newsletter first.
| Quote: | | Also, what do you mean that you are guilty of not promoting to your list? Should I highlight the people who have signed up for the list? |
Sorry about that, in this case, when I use the word "list" I simply mean your newsletter. You'll often find people use the words ezine, newsletter and list synonymously. They all three basically mean the same thing.
So basically what I was saying was I'm guilty of not promoting my newsletters (over my website home pages) as much as I should be.
And I know better. I co-own another website with Kara and when we first started this site, we advertised nothing BUT the newsletter. We NEVER included the home page itself in any of our advertising, promotions, articles etc. We always lead everything to our subscription page.
To clarify that just a bit more:
The website I'm talking about is http://www.directsaleshelpers.com
When we first started this site, ALL forms of advertising and promotions lead to our subscriber page http://www.directsaleshelpers.com/newsletter.html
This particular newsletter grew at an immense rate which also turned into a bunch of customers who got to know us and our "stuff" which also turned into being able to sell to the same people over and over again every time we create a new product.
So, what I'm saying I'm guilty of not doing is ... instead of sending people to our newsletter page, I've lately been guilty of sending people to our home page and I know I'm wrong in doing this.
Does that clear everything up for you?
Later!

Hey Joan,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to congratulate you on a job well done with your first newsletter! Really, you did a fantastic job!
And I'll tell you what ... you caught my attention exactly where you were supposed to! Is Stress the #1 Reason for YOUR Doctors Visit? What a wonderfully enticing subject line - sure to grab the attention of your subscribers. It worked for me
As a matter of fact, I received two newsletters at almost the exact same time - one of course being yours and the second one had a subject line that said: Anita, XYZ Newsletter is Ready
(I won't publish the name of the newsletter to protect the publisher.)
Guess which one I opened first?
I liked yours so much and the two newsletters are such a great comparison that I'd like to ask you if I could use your subject line as a comparison of what you should and shouldn't do in the ebook about "how to create a newsletter" that I just happen to be writing right now?
Here's to many, many more fantastic newsletters!
Take care,
