I have a counter on my sites that logs visitors. Do you ever get a feeling that people are visiting your site to copy your content?
It's just a hunch, but seeing the same people log in over and over without contacting me for information, etc., I am suspicious.
Is there a way to detect this or protect my work?

Your work is always protected by copyright laws. But of course that still means you have to go through the hassle of it all.
If you think it's a specific post, I would do a google search for that post title and see what comes up.
How do you know it's the same people if they aren't leaving you comments or signing up for your newsletter?
Also, they could have you added to their RSS feed so they know when you have new content added. I don't sign up for feeds anymore because I use the google reader and it has all of my favorite blogs in one spot. _________________ Val

Hey Val.
I use stat-counter which records all 'hits' to my site. When I see one particular ISP address over and over, it just makes me curious. That's all.
However, you did mention the RSS feed, and I don't think I understand exactly what that is. Can you elaborate? It might answer my question.
Thanks.

You have a feed to your blog I assume. I put that feed into my feedreader and when you update it updates a blurb in my feedreader. Some people use feedblitz and that emails the blurbs directly to you. I just finally found a feedreader that worked for me.
Also, it could be spam programs scanning your site. The more popular your site the more spam you will have to deal with. My wellness blog gets a ton of spam to go through each week. It's why I have it set to moderate on the comments. Since yours is also a health blog I bet that is a big part of it. _________________ Val

Of course your reasoning could be the answer however ...
Don't forget that you have a lot of information on your site. AND it's a health site. As I mentioned to you earlier, a product such as yours, some people are going to read and read and read some more before they jump in and buy.
And are you talking about your blog/newsletter or site? I just want to be clear. I noticed you and Val were talking about the RSS feed so I thought maybe you were talking about the blog/newsletter.
Either way, you want repeat visitors - and lots of repeat visitors. The more they come, the more they read and apparently they're already interested ... just getting that boost to buy.
I know for me, depending on what I'm buying, I often visit a website several times before buying - especially if there is a lot of reading to do about the product.
I mean I'm not telling you to totally discount the copying idea but ... I'm thinking you may be being a bit suspicious.
I will tell you though, with your particular product, if it were me, the chances of me visiting often before buying are very high.
And don't forget, that's one of the beauties of websites - some people simply don't want to ask for additional information You'll find a little bit of both. Some who purchase from you who you had no idea were even looking, not contacting you a single time. Then you'll have the others who contact you and ask so many questions that you eventually wish they never found your site and would be perfectly fine if they never purchased a thing, lol!
Again, yes, the idea of someone copying your work is certainly a possibility. However, I wouldn't get too upset just yet. Enjoy the visitors
Oh and one more thing ... Having an online website definitely opens you up to someone stealing your content and it happens all to often. While you want to protect yourself as much as possible ... you'll never be able to completely protect your work. If they want it bad enough, they're going to get it unfortunately.
I've even seen those scripts where webmasters block the right clicking action. Grr they drive me crazy! Simply because they usually end up offending me.
Basically what they do is they disable the visitor's right click. Often a little message will pop up that says "Stealing is illegal" or "This is my content" and one time I've even seen one that said something like "You should be ashamed of yourself!"
Grrr! That particular time, I was copying a line from her site to paste it into an email and ask a question about it. Hmm ... I should be offended for asking a question?
Other times it's happened to me is when I've hit the right click to open a link in a new window so I don't loose my spot. So, I'm doing something illegal by making sure I don't get lost from a particular page on your site? And one more is if I want to email someone, I often copy and paste the email address into my email program.
Needless to say, anytime I've been offended by this ... they lost a visitor and probably a sale. Nope, I do not suggest this.
Anyway ... that's my 2 cents ... take it for what it's worth
Take care,
