When you are looking for networking sites that are worth your time to stick around on what are you looking for?
Some things to get the brainstorming moving.
~resources
~heavily trafficed forums
~good advertising deals
~free membership vs. paid memberships
~plug boards
~free advertising options (and what would those options be that you like?)
That should be enough to get the convo off and running. I don't expect any responses for a few days since I'm the only one on MHC this weekend. lol _________________ Val

Other than some of the things that you've also mentioned ...
You really don't have a whole lot of control over this as far as design goes but, one thing that's important to me are the quality of the members.
I do not have time for nit-picking fighting drama that you find in junior high or high school. Unfortunately there are way too many forums just like this.
Another thing I don't like is member bashing. There is no need to be nasty to fellow members. If someone gets nasty in anyway, the post gets deleted and the offender gets warned. If it happens again ... see ya - bye!
That's probably not what you're looking for and I know you feel pretty much the same way as me, lol!

I don't like politics.
I want simple, smooth, and fun discussions about things that matters...
I also want to see that someone is in charge who takes matters into their hands if things like spam gets out of hand or if discussion gets over the board... _________________ www.ishopathome.ca

Oh good point Imie! No politics! Everyone has their own thoughts/opinions and really - most of the time - you're not going to change someone's mind. Might as well keep it off the boards, rofl!

I avoid politics and religion online (and offline, too!)
It's not that I don't have strong opinions about either, because I do, but business is business. It's just not a good impression when new people see you online debating who should be president and why.
As far as networking sites, I look for commonality as to the other members and how we can help each other.
Building the relationships is most important to me. _________________ Patty ---
