From Anita:
This is one of those "must read posts" that's packed full of good information so I'm going to make it "sticky" to stay at the top.

I know that this is not a huge thing anymore. Who can keep up with what is? But how do I increase the page rank? I have been stuck at 3's forever and it drives me bonkers. Even my blogs are at a 3.
Rolling Eyes

So it's time for SEO. I am working on a site redesign for Little Scrapbook Shop and my wellness site is even 3. CRUD, I've got to fix that. There aren't honestly a lot of sites out there to promote HEALTHY living for women, but I need to figure out how to target that without sounding like an infomercial.

Like you mentioned it's not really that important, but at the same time it is. I guess the way I like to think about it is, it's a measure to tell how much you need to get your site out there. Completely throw out the SEO for a second, and say "Ok, PR3 is nice, but if I can get it to a PR4 I know I'm doing a good job of promoting my site". Not really how you should judge a site, but it can be your personal guide for your own sites. Wink

That said, here's some ideas for promoting your website and getting some links coming in:

- Write articles
- Submit articles to article directories and ezine publishers
- Exchange links with TARGETED sites
- Exchange home page links with like sites
- Buy long term advertising or directory listings
- Ping your blogs at Pingoat.com
- Submit you blogs to blog directories (there's a list somewhere, and it's driving me NUTS that I can't find it.... Mad)
- Cross link your websites (when it's appropriate of course)

There's a few ideas that should keep you hoping for awhile. I am a very firm believer in article writing and it's something we do each and every single week. After a year of writing just one article a week and submitting it everywhere we possibly can, DirectSalesHelpers.com has a PR5. Wink

Now if I could just get Mom's Market, my oldest site, up to a PR6 I would be one happy camper. Laughing

This is exactly what I think. Laughing It's a personal measure and I agree it lets me know how I'm doing. Thanks for your list of tips. I will get my goals written up better and down to business.

Busy Momma has been up for only around 6 months and it's a 3. OHOHOH, I just checked it again this minute and it's a 4!!!!! WOOHOO Now I know that google gets finacky and that could change by the morning. lol LSS was a 4 before they redid a bunch of stuff mid last year. So, now I'll work on submitting articles and the other suggestions and work on getting it to a 5. I'm so excited that I checked it again.

Try this FREE online SEO class. Very helpful.

http://www.gnc-web-creations.com/web-training.htm.

I created meta tags for my website and increased my google ranking 2 points in just a couple of minutes. I used a FREE Meta Tag Generator, created it, then cut and pasted in into my html.

Good Luck!

I am almost done with the class Tina recommended and I highly recommend it. The class is actually offered through Yahoo Groups, so email messages are mailed daily. You go at your own pace.

I will take the class again to pick up those things I might have missed.

Hmm ... if I've said this a hundred times, I'll probably say it a hundred more! LOL! The only stupid question is the question that is left un-answered because it went un-asked. Words to live by ... by Anita DeFrank, rofl! (Sorry that was so lame but I so couldn't resist! And it so just gave me an idea!)

Anyway ... first and foremost before I give you the answer to this question, you must first promise that you WILL NOT ALLOW GOOGLE PR TO AFFECT YOUR LIFE! And I mean that seriously. From reading your posts, you seem like you're on a mission to really get your website out there ... and as well you should. Good for you!

So, when you start reading all about the Almighty Google gods and how they work the Page Rank, you'll start wanting to learn more and more and trying to reach the "almighty green" as they say.

Google Page Rank is NOT that important ...

And I repeat ...

Google Page Rank is NOT that important...

I swear as time goes on Google is shooting themselves in the foot every day and making it more and more unimportant.

(Nah, I'm not a google hater at all, lol)

But seriously, yes I would recommend trying somewhat to raise your page rank. However, don't loose any sleep. The only reason I say yes, work on your page rank is because yes, the things to improve your page rank are things you should be doing for your site anyway.

This is a very old post but Kara's recommendations above still hold water. The only thing I will mention about her list is the link exchanges. Yes do them but do them in moderation. I myself am currently researching exactly how important link exchanging is and if it should be done or not.

That said ... do it in moderation Wink

Ha, I hope my reply here hasn't scared you from asking questions again! LOL! You just hit a very touchy subject and a very important one.

Now I will actually answer your questions ...

Quote:
how often are page ranks updated

Honestly, only Google knows. There is no rhyme or reason. You just often find out when there's been an upset and everyone looses there rank. Seriously, there really is no answer except only Google knows. (And I'd love to venture to say .. they don't even, rofl!)

Quote:
how do you check to see what yours is

Hey! A super easy question! You can do one of two things.

You can either go here:
http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php
And enter your website.

OR

You can go to Google.com and download their tool bar. You will then see your PR as well as the PR of all the other sites you visit Wink

Hope this helps!

Take care,
Anita Razz

Shoot, it looks like my site hasn't even been indexed yet. How long does that take, usually? Or is it one of those things where only Google knows (and they probably don't even know)? lol!

Indexing can take from a few weeks to a few months. It will depend partly on how well you are promoting it. Get some more links out there, meaning on message boards, blogs, etc and you are more likely to be picked up by a spiderbot. Smile

PR is evil and the last update happened just a few short months after I had a good update. PR is important for me because my blog went from a 3 to a 0 which means I've lost over $200 a month in blogging cash since that update. My blog is very active and not spammy at all, so there is no rhyme or reason to how they do the PR. Evil or Very Mad Until they can come up with a better way to judge sites, PPP uses the PR to pass out the paid blogging opportunities. Sad I just have to wait for the next update and hope it goes back up.

See and yet another Google hater, lol! They just really need to come up with a more stable way to handle PR.

I too went from a very strong PR5 to a PR0 during the last dance Evil or Very Mad And just like Val, my site is the farthest thing from spammy, has a lot of valuable information nor have I ever even considered anything "black hat" or "against the rules". That said I lost all confidence and respect in Google.

Unlike Val however (and another perfect example to see PR is worthless) I have not lost any income in advertising sales and it has not effected my traffic. As a matter fact, my traffic has indeed increased since the drop Wink

Take care,
Anita Razz

Yep, hasn't had a thing to do with my traffic. It's just the lack of opps for me to take. Sad Traffic is still as good as ever.

Opportunities these days are looking for investments at any level. A simple loan can be taken to finance the money for the investment. One of the better options out there is stock trading, the margins are high and the business is successful. Another one is real estate investment, for which one can get a mortgage refinance services to get a lower interest rate loan. Other small opportunities are providing insurances like cheap car insurance or supplying services in the finance sector like merchant credit services.
