It's amazing that after this many years of the internet being up and rocking that some newsletter services don't require a double opt-in subscription EVERY time.
If you have the choice to go with the single or double, ALWAYS go with the double. This protects you in case someone turns you in for spam. If they double opted into your list then they have no recourse, they signed up to get info from you.
Typically those that don't use double opt in are out to spam you. It may mean that you farmed the emails from various sites and then just added them to your list.
