Well, Jillian is at majorette camp... she's been there since Sunday afternoon. She's the only new member of the squad... all the other girls have been in the squad at least a year, if not more. Anyway, Monday afternoon, she hurt her ankle. She texted me to tell me that she sprained it and that they had wrapped it but it hurt a lot. It's the ankle she broke last year....

I kept asking her what the leaders say and she said they told her it was just sprained and had her wrap it and elevate it and put it on ice whenever they weren't practicing or performing. By evening it was swollen, she said, and they told her to sit out then.... just watch.

I was a bit afraid she was exaggerating because she is the newbie and I was afraid she wasn't doing as good, so maybe she wanted an excuse... know what I mean??? Well... today, she sent me a text picture of her ankle.... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad I wanted to cry!!!! It really looks bad! It's totally black and blue underneath her ankle bone! She was most definitely not exaggerating!!! If anything, I give her full credit for sucking it up and continuing to do everything!!!!

And I feel terribly guilty for ever thinking she was milking it! Crying or Very sad I'm such a bad mommy Crying or Very sad

We go pick her up tomorrow evening... they have a program at 5:00 for all the parents to attend. I can't wait to see her!!! I told her to please sit out if she needs to.... not to push it! She said it actually does feel better, but looks worse.... and that she's learning lots.

The stupid teenage girl drama is driving her crazy though... the girl who is her roommate became buddy/buddy with another girl who she had never been friends with before and is totally leaving Jilli out of the loop... and the other girls are all paired up too.... so she's pretty much on her own, which she hates, but she says she is not going to push her way into the other girls, and they don't seem to want to include her.... Crying or Very sad

I can't wait till this whole thing is over....

Aww mom. It reminds me of the time I was treating my son at home for what I thought was a cold. He's so hard to tell because he fights through everything. You know, there's just too much for a little guy to do every day. Well, by the time I finally took him to the doctor's because his cold wasn't going away - I found out he had a sever sinus infection and 2 ear infections! ugh!

But mom ... we all make mistakes. Not that yours was that very big anyway. I probably would have thought the exact same thing and done exactly what you did. Besides, apparently the camp leaders must not have thought it was too bad or else you would think they would say something other than elevate it and put ice on it when they weren't active ... I mean if it was that bad, you would think that they wouldn't let her participate anymore at all. You know?

Don't feel so bad mom ... I'm sure everything that has been going on just made the whole situation worse so it was still good to make her stay and "learn" to work through it ... just a little life lesson.

Besides, I bet when you pick her up, you'll find that the whole experience wasn't quite as bad as it seems. Wink

Take care,
Anita Razz

Well, guess what....

It's broken. Can you believe it! We went to the performance Wednesday night and she was limping a bit, but not too bad... They did their show, and she did great! Not one drop! Laughing I was so proud of her!!!

Then she tells me she has to take off the ace bandage and give it back... and I get a look at her ankle. It was swollen to almost double the size and black and blue all underneath the outer bone plus up the back side of her leg at least 4 inches! Of course, this is after all the advisers are gone... so I couldn't even talk to anyone....

She just wanted to go home and go to bed, cause she was exhausted, so we went home and I made her ice it and keep it elevated. Thursday, I took her into her doctor and he had it xrayed. He could see a crack in the bottom part of the fibula. He sent the xrays to the Orthopod and they are supposed to call me and let me know what they are going to do about it.

I'm still waiting to hear from someone! It's Friday afternoon now, and no news yet. I called before lunch but they were already gone from lunch. They return at 1:00, so I'll be calling then to find out what is happening.

I just can't believe she performed and practiced on a cracked ankle for 12-14 hours a day for 3 days with it like that!!! I will never again say my daughter is a wuss! lol!

So.... there goes the first part of football season... She's not going to be able to practice very well on crutches... and it's hard to learn the routine if you're not actually doing it. She's crushed, of course... she worked so hard to make the squad...

Oh well, what are you going to do????

Keep her in your prayers for a quick recovery!

Bev

Aw Bev, healing thoughts to Jillian.

One of our relay partners in high school track went almost the whole season on a broken foot. We knew we were going to state, so what choice did she have really? Sad

Oh my goodness! What a trooper and I would be spitting mad as well. WOW! that is hard core... but it is unfortunate that there is so much peer pressure to perform regardless, esp from the advisors and trainers.

I hope she heals quickly so she can get back to the squad, if that's what she wants to do.
