I just wrote an article on how to make gift baskets to sell as a business so thought I'd post here -
A gift basket company is easy to set up, requires a low budget for startup costs and offers enterprising individuals the perfect opportunity to own their own business and work from home. Those interested in starting out in this industry should find the following tips and ideas about creating and assembling baskets useful for their new venture.
Firstly, remember that a gift basket doesn't necessarily have to be in a basket as such and could be in some other form of container that would suit a certain theme. Look for a basket or a container of an appropriate size so that it holds the contents nicely. Over stuffing or under-filling a basket can make it appear cluttered and untidy or 'of poor value' so try to get the right balance.
When planning your basket concepts give some thought to the colors of your basket items, baskets and packaging and how various colors will compliment each other.
You must have some kind of padding to place at the bottom of your basket creations to protect items while they are in transit as well as to elevate selected products to a height that creates a more eye pleasing display.
Always make it clear which side of the basket that you have created is the front and which side is the back. Have all product labels facing the front in the same direction and put taller products to the back and shorter products closer to the front.
Once you have everything in place you will not want to risk having the contents move around while the basket is in transit. Use clear tape to ensure that the baskets contents remain secured in position.
Always wrap your baskets with something like cellophane to protect the items inside during delivery and to make them more attractive. Finally, you can add other finishing touches and decorations and offer clients a way of getting a personalized message on the outside of the package such as a card or a printed ribbon.
Remember to put your card in the bottom of the gift baskets that you assemble as the recipient of the gift may buy from you in the future if they liked your service.
Always try to improve on your basket concepts, themes and styles. Keep studying design, art and crafts on the Internet and elsewhere so that you are always inspired to come up with new products.
To succeed in the gift basket business you need to be able to combine an ability for putting together good looking baskets with good business skills. A combination of these two things will guarantee that you are well positioned to achieve the success that you desire.
